What is considered a short optical drive? Is ther a dimension that we can use to check?

You need to compare the depth. Lite-Ons tend to be the shortest. Here are the dimensions (copied and pasted in the order given) from three manufacturers:

Lite-On SOHW-1653S 145.0 W x 41.3 H x 170.0 D
LG GSA 4163B 146mm x 184.7mm x 41.3mm
BenQ DL DW1620 Specifications 146 x 198 x 42 mm

Note that the Lite-On is over an inch shorter than the BenQ.

sorry to reply so late.
Where did you find the K7N2GM2-LSR?
Yes, it is better "IF" you plan on using onboard video.
That version supports Dual Channel, and onboard will be 128 bit when you use two memory sticks. Other board will only be 64 bit.

Testing onboard with 3dm2k1se
NF2 dual channel scores 4400
NF2 single stick (or 64bit models) scores 1400.

If you use addon video card, none of this matters.
The memory speed difference going to dual channel is only 2% to 5%.
Onboard video is where it really matters.

That is cool! I am not ready to buy this yet anyway - I was only collecting info! In any case, I did see this MB a few days ago at NewEgg, but now it won't show up any more - probably sold out. In any case, when I googled it, I found many different sources & a couple were much cheaper ($55) than NewEgg's $80+ original price.

It should work with the stock PSU (which is shorter than normal ATX PSUs). The problem comes into play when you try to use a standard ATX and a longer optical drive. It still might work with 90-degree connectors and good cable placement on the PSU.

I'm using the K7N2GM2-LSR too. Biggest drawback is the lack of voltage and multiplier adjustments. I got around that by using the in-socket wire mod.

Without multiplier & voltage adjustemnts I imagine you can't be OCing it much, right?
What about the cooling? What kind of cooling are you using. If you mentioned earlier in the thread, I didn't see it.

Are you otherwise happy with this board?

Thanks

I just got my new FIC SFF case in the mail the other day, built it up last night, that case is really sweet. It's smaller than these mATX portable cases :) (And still has clear sides)

I must have gotten a return or a poorly manufactured case. The interior side of the plexiglass was definitely not in good shape. Scratches and blemishes :(

For those who wanted this in blue (it looks good), ChiefValue is showing it in stock now (I just got an email on this.) Price is regular price: $98.99 ($89.00+ $9.99 ship.) Add tax if in California. Unfortunately, I have no $$$ at present so thought I'd pass this one on as there were a few interested in this color. Per the email, their stock is limited to first come first served (and I have no idea how many they have.)

Looks like all colors are OOS in ChiefValue! Sounds like these are very populare cases - then how come they are so much in short supply? May be Aspire didn't expect such high demand!

yeah the case is awesome just got one 6/8, red, the only thing is it looks more like a rust color than the pics on aspire's website show. i totally recommend this case for anybody who wants a SFF system, its alot wider & longer that those shuttle systems, but you can mod it any way you like. i already got a lighted(blue) ide cable which looks really nice. and hopefully i will get an ultra uv blue power supply. http://www.ultraproducts.com/product_de...s.php?cPath=37&pPath=157&productID=161
and maybe a cpu heatsink fan with a blue led also, and last but not least some blue led lights for my memory.

It would be a toss up between the Jetway A210GDMS-ro or the Foxconn NF4K8MC-RS

Both have seen some good reviews. Also check on the as there is lots of discussioni on that Jetway. I know its a Jetway, but I think I am going to pull the trigger and try it out.

Sure, I'll believe that that little dinky pop-out handle is strong enough to carry the weight of a potentially very expensive piece of equipment.

LOL. Well no one will actually use the handle - it's small enough to carry as it is.

GREAT THREAD.

Thanks for all the info - curious though...

I have a current Athlon XP 1800+
768 mb of PC2100 ram
GeForce 4 TI 4200 128MB Vid Card

This heatsink/fan combo...which is pretty big - curious if that can still fit.

Just wondering what would be the best board mATX to use with this.

Also - how is the noise on that powersupply...and could the seasonic S12 fit in there if I really wanted to go silent.

I want to use as many of the old parts as possible.

Thanks in advance - keeps those reviews of how you guys are liking the case coming.
