Kinda like a "Gay Homosexual."

"white trash" ?

Naw. See, you lose because you couldn't keep the theme.

That would be Caucasian Cracker.

Try harder next time.

yea randay, you were almost there but didnt quite make it.

you shoulda gone with "republican white trash"

note that the split is now done with one word relating with two. but we'll cover this in class next week, since it's a bit complicated.

You failed even worse. Not only could you not follow the theme, you completely missed the mark in guessing my politics.

Asian = person. Example: He is Asian.
Oriental = thing. Example: Oriental rug.

Asian = "of, relating to, or characteristic of the continent of Asia or its people"

Oriental = " one who is a native of east Asia or is of east Asian descent"

Oriental refers to some type of property - an oriental rug, the orient express, whatever

You use Asian when you refer to a person from Asia (duh what the fvck)

Some people find being called oriental offensive; I'll correct somebody for saying it, but I don't find it offensive.

You're a fool.

If they find being called Oriental offensive, they need to stop being whiners. The dictionary definition of oriental fits just fine. Don't like it? Good luck getting 4 of the 5 definitions revised to specifically exclude humans.

Asia is a big freaking place. Stop lumping people into one category. It'd be like calling everyone who claims Irish/English/Spanish/German/Whatever Heritage just "European". In fact, while we are at it, we'll just refer to everyone by their ancestor's contienent. So, excluding Antartica, there are only 6 types of people in the world from here forth. To call people in Ukraine no different than people from Iraq or the Phillipines is an insult to the entire freaking contienent, much more than people from one corner of it being called Oriental. If a person is fine being called just "Asian"... good... that's fine, but don't tell people they can't or shouldn't call someone Oriental, because by definition, they are.

uhm, so what ur saying is... Oriental is more specific?

A: Hi I'm German... you must be Oriental...
B: No I'm Chinese u fvcktard...

You messed that one up.

You mean "Oriental is to Asian as negro is to black"

NO! He means oriental has a negative connotation just like the word Negro.

Would you call a black man a Negro? Not unless you want to die.

"Excuse me, my Negro, but where is the bus to Funky Town?"

As a black person I wouldn't be offended if someone called me negro. It would just be weird because i'd have to assume that the person had lived in a bubble the last 50 years.

Lolz... just cause u don't use them doesnt mean the term doesnt exist or other people don't use them. For some people its very hard to tell a Columbian apart from Puerto Rican... yet most people out of respect don't mix the two and just automatically assume some1 is Puerto Rican just cause they look Puerto Rican... what happen's if they're mix lolz...

A general term is needed to avoid these types of issues that's why we have terms like Asians, South Americans, Americans, Europeans, etc... The term Oriental is no longer the preferred term to call a group of people. I really doubt u could look at a lineup of chinese/koreans/japanese and instantly tell who is who. Impossible to tell 100%.....

I don't get offended if you call me Oriental... I prefer Asian.. but I mean if ur gonna argue about something and try to point facts out, at lease try to make some sense and not assume that everyone feels the same way you do.

She means nothing by it. It was just the last PC term when she stopped caring about updating.

Negro - colored - afro american - black - african american - black

EDIT: cuz my wife just reminded me.....

we were over at her g'mas for 12 noon dinner (WTF) and her great aunt gets there and Rocky II was on and she says, "oh is this the movie with the WOP and the n!gger". old people can be so funny.

If I don't know their nationality - I use their freaking name. Even if I do know their nationality I usually use their name.

My point is that the term "Asian" is imprecise and incorrect. It's equally as valid to call Indians and Russians Asian as it is to call Japanese and Viatnamese Asians.

Anybody that can't understand that an older person may be set in their ways has problems. I find it hard to believe that that your grandmother's friends have no problem with the other word though. Was your grandmother just kidding?

It has not always been that way. There is nothing inherent in the word oriental that dictates that it can only be used to describe objects. It is only taboo because thin-skinned people get their panties in a wad over a term that implies that Europe is the center of the world. Do you get upset over the lines of latitude as well?

FWIW, I'm an American and don't get offended by the term "western." Middle easterners get offended by that term. I don't know why southeast asians make such a big deal out of being called oriental.

im american as well, and if i hear someone calling an asian, oriental, i just think they are uneducated. dont be stubborn and just be thankful you learned something today ;)

Can you tell a German person from an Austrian person just by looking at them? Swedish from Finnish? Italian from Spanish? Indian from Pakistani? Peruvian from Ecuadorian? I can't. That's why if I don't know where in South America someone is from, I'll call them South American. And if a person looks Indian, I'll call them Asian. Because I don't want to look foolish for assuming an Indian person is Pakistani or vice versa (see: Barbershop).

If I know a person is from Brazil, I'll call them Brazillian. Otherwise they're South American (or Latin American since I really can't tell a central American from a South American).

she doesn't have many black friends, but i've never seen any agressive speach (i.e. commenting on the corrolation between violent crimes/drugs/poverty and black people, but occasionally the word n!gger would rear it's ugly head. she's apologetic mostly, but she also needs to put me in check for being the child and correcting her so matter of factly.
