Say goodbye to flyovers

Due to federal budget issues, the sporting world will soon have to say goodbye to flyovers.

Michelle Beadle is alright with the cut because she isn't comfortable using tax dollars to fund this, but Dave Briggs says it's a reminder of our military in front of millions of people.

16,000 Alabamians to see cut in jobless benefits

Automatic budget cuts to affect 16,000 Alabamians getting extended unemployment benefits

The long-term unemployed in Alabama will be among the first to feel automatic federal budget cuts scheduled to take effect Friday.

A spokeswoman for the Alabama Department of Labor says federal officials have advised the department to prepare for a cut of 9 percent to 10 percent in unemployment benefits for Alabamians who have exhausted their 26 weeks of state unemployment benefits and are now getting the extended 37 weeks of federal benefits.

Spokeswoman Tara Hutchison said the unemployment cuts are supposed to take effect Sunday and will affect 16,000 people. The federal benefits are administered by the state Department of Labor. The average benefit is $202 weekly and the max is $265.

The White House estimates Alabama will lose $472,000 for the remainder of the fiscal year.

Meat plant shutdowns inevitable in budget cuts: USDA

The automatic cuts, also called sequestration, are due to take effect on Friday because Congress and the White House are unable to agree on other ways to reduce the federal deficit. USDA says the cuts would force it to lay off its 8,400 meat inspectors for 15 days to produce the savings ordered for its food safety agency.

Early this month, the White House raised the prospect of a mass layoff, which would shutter the meat industry for two weeks. Plants cannot operate without USDA inspectors.

Stores and restaurants could run short of meat temporarily.

Up to one-third of the USDA's 100,000 employees may be affected by furloughs. The USDA says the cuts would deny food aid to 600,000 pregnant women, new mothers and infants and also force closure of hundreds of Forest Service campgrounds, picnic areas and visitors' centers during the spring and summer.

Awesome

All of that should be shutdown, it should be self sufficient and not require tax dollars to begin with.

Yeah, most industries have a long history of self regulation, we don't need government doing it.

All Meat Plants to shut down in U.S. due to automatic budget cuts

Scare title. It would be a LOT more accurate to say
All meat plants MIGHT have to shut down at some future point IF budget cuts are enacted AND the USDA doesn't come up with a better plan than furloughing all necessary inspectors at the same time.

From the article:
"Although the spending cuts are due to take effect on Friday, it could be weeks or months before the meat industry is directly affected. Meat inspectors are guaranteed at least 30 days' notice of a furlough."
USDA might order furloughs on non-consecutive days to mitigate their effect and keep plants running.

"Specific furlough dates for (inspectors) have yet to be determined but there is no question sequestration will have an adverse effect on food inspection services," said USDA spokeswoman Courtney Rowe.

We won't even feel this. The government is cutting $86 billion from a budget that spends $3.7 trillion. And, technically, that is not correct either as the budget is going up this year. So basically they are cutting less than 1 penny on every dollar spent. Big deal...

These are just scare tactics the Dems are using hoping that the GOP will cave and agree to tax hikes like they did when the fiscal cliff was approaching.

 The USDA has a more resources than just meat inspectors. ANd even if they do decide to furlough the inspectors I highly doubt they will furlough all of their meat inspectors at the same time and shut down the industry.

But this will cause us to go meatless, make air traffic untenable due to the snarled mess laying off air traffic controllers will cause, child care and college aid will be inaccessible for tens of thousands, and invite terrorist attacks. This has to be the most efficient and well used $86 billion in the entire government

MS and AL are the two fattest states in the nation... I'd say cut their food stamps a bit.

Spreading FUD to make their case.

the system can run smoothly on what is has; it just can not expand the waste that it has grown accustom to having.

They already had >26 weeks of unemployment. Time to look for a job?

This may be a good thing in the long run. People will again look for work instead of being paid to sit around. As a member of the work force, this means they consume gas, buy lunches etc, thus they spend more and increase commerce.

Budget Cuts Will Mean Delays for Burials at Arlington Cemetery

The Army says Arlington’s top priority is to bury troops killed in action in Afghanistan. That is not going to change under sequestration. Arlington representatives say that such burials typically take place within two weeks of receipt of the bodies of the fallen.

Veterans of older conflicts are likely to experience longer wait times. Those currently range from 30 days for burials without honors, to three months for full honors.

Coast Guard: Budget cuts to limit flights, patrols

The Coast Guard commandant says the automatic budget cuts taking effect later this week would mean fewer flight hours for rescue helicopters and planes and fewer hours patrolling the seas for the service's boats and cutters.

Adm. Robert J. Papp said Wednesday that emergencies will be a priority.

In a briefing with reporters, Papp acknowledged that interdictions of illegal immigrants, drugs and illegal fishing could decline.

Jesus this is getting ridiculous. Just start one thread, title it possible sequester cuts and be done with it.

Just merge this crap together.
