Tokyo has two overlapping subway systems. Life goes on. There aren't 15.
Two Telecom companies would still give them massive Duopoly power, like most people currently have with cable and phone service. Without regulation, they would milk that power for everything they could. The only reason we really even have those two is because they used to serve very different roles.

It's not F.Y.Got.Mine. if that's what they voted for and I am for giving it to them. It's F.Y.Get.Yours.
Your hatred of people with different views is noted and often repeated/confirmed. I know this might also shock you, but not everyone in a rural area or red state voted for Trump.

Yet were still all impacted by the idiots who did.

I live in a rural area, Verizon hasnt touched our lines in decades. But here I am, dealing with another potential FCC ruling that red states voted for. So I get seasamps sentiment, fuck 'em....because they voted to burn his mofo down....so have at it.

There is some collateral damage there, but the may want to talk to their Trumpist neighbors. Giving people what they voted for is hatred? OK. I didn't vote for people who appointed Ajit Pai FCC chairman. Republicans did. I am just enjoying the shit show they brought on themselves.

That's what Republicans voted for. Let them have it. The free market does not want to maintain phone lines to a bunch of opioid junkies in the boonies.

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy...d-leave-americans-with-worse-internet-access/

... without providing "functional replacements"... leaving many DSL customers, many rural, High and Dry, and likewise, people that require POTS service for alarms or medical devices.

I think that this is a shame, and that the republican-controlled FCC is an affront to a civilized society, that depends on reliable, fairly-supported, and inexpensive telecommunication services.

If the FCC allows telcos to gut or abandon their copper networks, at the very least, they should be required to wire them up with fiber.

Edit: I believe that this is a totally separate issue than the "net neutrality" debate / vote.

I live in a rural area, and I honestly don't think my internet could get worse at this point. I am paying about $125 for 25 Mbps and it has a data cap on it. Every 50gb over the datacap is another $10. Basic cable tv is about another $75, which I would totally cut off, but I can't because of the data caps.

Heck, it might actually get better.... It would be nice to stream without data caps.

Shentel is the only option I have for internet. Verizon is also in the area, but they only offer 3 Mbps, which only runs at best at 1.5Mbps.

EDIT: Ohh and they just had "maintenance" the other day, and now my connection is completely wonky. The PC connected directly to the modem is only getting 5 Mbps, and sometimes it drops down to dialup speeds, and maybe lower. Usually it's pretty consistent, but the last time this happened with verizon, my 3 Mbps permanently became 1.5 Mbps.

That is what you are advocating for in this thread. You've never once said that you disagree with the policy just, "fuck them." So you too are on the "burn it all down" train.

I agree with the policy if that's what the people most impacted by it voted for. We have to respect their wishes. Us liberals should stop being nannies and protecting Republicans from themselves.

Voting for Ajit Pai as FCC chairman does. He will help you.
Pretty sure the people didn't vote for him.

People voted for Trump, who campaigned on draining the swamp. You can argue that that was an obvious lie, but I would argue that it was far MORE obvious that Hillary Clinton was campaigning on lies.

A vote for Trump is a vote for Ajit Pai as FCC chairman. Enjoy what you voted for.

Clearly you are in your own little neoliberal bubble, so I will just abstain from further derailing this discussion.

then you never paid attention to trump before his campaign. He lies constantly, obviously, and indiscriminately...has for decades.

Ok, let us know when your ISP decides you aren't worth the hassle, even at $200 per month. Maybe Google will send you an internet balloon like they do to other disaster areas.

Who did pay attention to him before that!? I would wager almost no one. The point is that you can't blame them anymore than you can blame the HRC voters that believed her bullshit.

Also, I am 99.9999999999% sure that HRC wouldn't have defended net neutrality either.

Because you are a both sideser. But Democrat FCC members cared more about mostly Republican rural residents having internet access than Republican politicians and their appointed fcc members did. That was a mistake, let people have what they vote for.

Did you listen to my spiel!? My internet service likely won't get worse, if Net Neutrality dies. The same is probably true of most of the people in rural areas. We are already being screwed!

Your internet service won't get worse if your ISP lets its lines rot? I admire your optimism. But for every Republican inflicted rock bottom, there always seems to be a basement.

Where are you getting this at? It sounds like something you just made up.

Okay, assume they all had voted for Hillary would you all of a sudden believe in universal connectivity?

It's what the article in the OP is about. Ignorance of consequences does not protect against them.

I would respect that vote too, at least then we would not be imposing government regulations on people voting against it. But right now they are voting for free markets and less regulation. And that's exactly what they should get.
