Just an example. After a failed RAM overclock attempt, it brings up a message saying I can load BIOS defaults to boot or I can go into the BIOS. Both options do not work. I click like crazy on them with the mouse. Smash keys on the keyboard. It doesn't work. The menu doesn't accept any interaction other than highlighting the option or the UP and DOWN arrow keys. Maybe on a 3rd boot it will work but that's a BIG maybe. So I figured out a workaround. Press CTRL-ALT-DEL to reboot and start smashing the DEL key. It enters the BIOS before it has a chance to trigger the stupid BIOS default screen.

And I had to take out the CMOS battery maybe just ONCE with my ASROCK Z790 in its entire lifetime with me. With the Gigabyte, it's EXPECTED after the BIOS goes into an infinite loop due to some tweaking. Thankfully, it's easy to take out the battery.

Did you use the boost profile? Don't they still make boards for overclockers that have the bios reset button on the back I/O? If not, you could connect the reset to the clear CMOS when overclocking?

I do not. I like that it is allowed within warranty though.

@In2Photos Did he get a gag order from Intel to not talk about his prize system?
@Kocicak Did we hurt his feelings enough for him to quit these forums?
@IEC He's also quiet about his recently bought system.
@ArrogantHair I think he's more into manual tuning so probably considers Boost profile beneath him

It would require BIOS update. Only planning to do that with Arrow Refresh (yes, I will put myself through the Refresh experience for the community!).

My mobo doesn't have a CMOS RESET button (bought a cheapo ~$250 mobo).

It has a CMOS RESET jumper but it's easier to do it with battery than to follow the jumper ritual.

Usually, CMOS reset buttons are often present.
It's rare that there is a reset button on the back panel side of the motherboard.
It may not come with a motherboard that is reasonably priced.

I suppose my hot take is that complaining about how a bang for buck board reacts when you overclock with an old? bios seems nit picky to me.

You would be right I guess but ASROCK SONIC Z790 that cost about the same had none of these issues.

I don't know that comparing different platforms makes a lot of sense. Particularly if you are not trying various bios versions...

The 265K is now in a ASRock Z890 Lightning with 200S Boost mode enabled (and 96GB DDR5-6400). No significant issues other than a lot of manual driver installation was required on Windows 11. I hesitate to try *nix for this reason...

The MSI Z890-P Pro Wifi is running the 265KF. It's having some sort of startup.nsh / UEFI secure boot issues and I can't be bothered to troubleshoot for the moment so it's sitting powered off for now. I may try to turn off secure boot and install Linux Mint to see how good or bad out of the box *nix compatibility is.

Do you have any all-core workloads to test if they are working as expected or if the Lion Coves are being lazy and bowing out mid-workload?

So far no real issues with the system. No tinkering either though. XMP is enabled and that's it. Haven't even updated the BIOS on it since we got it. If it ain't broke...

I use a similar switch on my system since it doesn't have a button on the motherboard. And with a vertical GPU it wouldn't be easy to get to. Just plugged one of these in and ran it out the back of the case so it's easy to get to.

Boost mode is not a huge improvement, and limiting, as it locks certain things so you can't further tweak.

Boost mode - P55 E48 D2D 32 NGU 32

Gigabyte has and Ultra Turbo mode that does this:

Turbo mode - P55 E48 D2D 28 NGU 32 RING 39
Extreme mode - P56 E48 D2D 30 NGU 34 RING 40

Better than stock. Good if you don't want to tweak and degrade your CPU.

Interesting that Boost mode has D2D 32 but GB Extreme limits it to only 30.

I think RAM kit also matters. With Patriot 8200, I got best Rapydmark score of 163 secs. With Patriot 7200@8000, I'm stuck at 208 secs.

Looks better though still makes me wish that Bartlett Lake had been 12P Lion Coves on Intel 7. With low RAM latency and 8000+ RAM speeds, it would've been a very decent performer at 5.8 GHz ST and 5.5 GHz MT clocks.

Can someone try Keyshot Viewer benchmark on their Arrow Lake and let me know if it's wonky?

It exited unexpectedly three times in a row (at about 60%). Tried the GPU benchmark. That one didn't finish either. Tried again and this time the GPU benchmark completed successfully. Then tried CPU and it was also able to complete.

I'm running XMP 7200 profile and it's y-cruncher 2.5B stable.

Ran multiple other benchmarks and no issues.

By the way, Gigabyte Z890 mobos probably come with TPM support disabled by default. There seem to be articles online about it. I had to check because Win11 24H2 update failed and it says TPM not available. Now annoyingly need to figure out which setting is the culprit in the BIOS. Articles say to enable Secure Boot and Intel PTT.
