I really doubt they have the actual Ark.

Why?

because religion is phoney

edit: plus they've had thousands of years and unlimited cash to come up with an elaborate forgery and backstory.

...and you just thought of this so it must be true?

The Ark has been historically documented, all religion aside. It is definitely real. If it "holds tablets created by God", that's up for debate, but the Ark itself is an actual item.

and Atlantis was also an actual place whats your point?

History fail.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantis

Since you can't tell the difference between something that is archeologically recognized as being very probably myth and something that is archeological fact I'd recommend listening and learning from others in the thread.

very probably myth lol ok......thats a funny defense in a religious thread.

This isn't a religious thread, dolt. This is a thread about a possible historical find. It is unlikely to be a TRUE find but it is possible.

The patriarch of the Orthodox Church of Ethiopia says he will announce to the world Friday the unveiling of the Ark of the Covenant, perhaps the world's most prized archaeological and spiritual artifact, which he says has been hidden away in a church in his country for millennia, according to the Italian news agency Adnkronos.

Abuna Pauolos, in Italy for a meeting with Pope Benedict XVI this week, told the news agency, "Soon the world will be able to admire the Ark of the Covenant described in the Bible as the container of the tablets of the law that God delivered to Moses and the center of searches and studies for centuries."

I don't know what made me think this had to do with religion. I guess me, the patriarch of the orthodox church of ethiopia and the pope are all dolts.

You're missing the point. Just because it was used as a tool for religion doesn't mean it never existed. 10000 years from now when people are talking about the 'lost statue of Touchdown Jesus' and one gets found in the middle of a place formerly known as Notre Dame that doesn't mean it couldn't possibly exist because they no longer believe in superior powers of the heavens.

You are being silly stupid argumentative. Many historical artifacts, arguably the vast majority of them, are tied to some religious endeavor however that should not mean that their existence, study, and admiration have to be centered around religion.

Obviously the people noted above are religion and therefore may few this artifact thru the eyes of religion, but it need not be like that for all of us.

Anyhow, the above argument was that this is a thread about the possibility of a historical find, not about religion which is absolutely true. You appear to be argumentative and wanting to spin this into some religious thread just for the sake of being a dolt.

Regardless if religion is phony are you debating the pyramids and temple of solomon exist?

There is a lot of hokey stuff out there, but if you start back and read the history and move forward there is a lot to understand.

very little has to do with anything the vatican stands for.

I don't think you understand enough to argue this topics...even with that zietgiest link you have in your sig.

Religion and the vatican are mutually exclusive. Because one thing is wrong, doesn't mean another is.

Even outside of all the 'magic' and 'miracles' the pure history of the events show a pretty interesting story.

Problem is most are too brainwashed to read it properly and interject their own words/stories into the others.

but you do understand the Ark is a real item? just because it is also mentioned in the bible does not change that. This may not be the ark with the tablets but it is possible (doubtfull) that it is the historical factual ark.

So uh, does this mean the Ark contains the tablets of stone as well, or were they lost long ago? I couldn't find anything on Wikipedia mentioning the fate of the stones with the Ten Commandments written on them.

The box is pretty interesting but the contents would be far more interesting. Wonder if they'll let anyone work on validating the authenticity.

The announcement is expected to be made at 2 p.m. Italian time from the Hotel Aldrovandi in Rome. Pauolos will reportedly be accompanied by Prince Aklile Berhan Makonnen Haile Sellassie and Duke Amedeo D'Acosta.

Religion aside, i'm always fascinated by the historic value of this artifact as describe in the bible, (i read the old testament for fun & neat stories). since the construction of the ark is described in detail, i'm surprised we don't see more replicas being built.

edit: let's get the melty face out of the way.... close your eyes!!

It's not a religion thread because this thread does not deal with religious belief but whether or not the find is a legitimate historical artifact or a fake.

Nobody's debating whether it has mystical powers.
Nobody's debating whether God used to live in this box.
Nobody's debating whether or not God exists.
Nobody's debating whether or not we're going to hell.

Now, if you WANT to start a debate about those or other matters of belief, have at it. I'm enjoying the thread from a completely non-religious perspective about whether or not this is a box that was carried around by the religious class of a tribal people 4,000 years ago.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Authentication

There are entire branches of research dedicated to methodologies of historical authentication. The existence of the ark of the covenant is validated by multiple contemporaneous sources. The earliest references to Atlantis from a single source already dealing with third-hand long-ago history, not contemporaneous existence.

That's just for starters.

You will not successfully argue that a box known as the Ark of the Covenant never existed. Pick another argument.

It's a box KNOWN as the Ark of the Covenant; that's exactly the point! We're not debating the mystical qualities of the Ark, we're discussing whether they found a really really really really really old box. Get it?

You are either (1) genuinely intellectually dumb or (2) being stupid argumentative and intellectual dishonest just for kicks. Neither one of those options are positive traits.

If this pans out as being something "old" then it does carry historical significance as an object to study. Things could be learned just for curiosity's sake.

Shit, have you ever been to a museum?

Nobody's debating whether or not God exists.
Nobody's debating whether or not we're going to hell.

Now, if you WANT to start a debate about those or other matters of belief, have at it. I'm enjoying the thread from a completely non-religious perspective about whether or not this is a box that was carried around by the religious class of a tribal people 4,000 years ago.

Without any of that its not an ark of the covenant its just a box.

It's a box KNOWN as the Ark of the Covenant; that's exactly the point! We're not debating the mystical qualities of the Ark, we're discussing whether they found a really really really really really old box. Get it?

I agree they found a box then.

There have been tons of con artists in history who've said they found the Ark. I'll believe it when I can touch it for myself and die. Otherwise, it's a crock of shit.
