I still play TF2 and some other stuff on PC occasionally but I just work to much in front of a computer these days that I don't want to see one when I get home. I prefer kicking back on the couch with a controller.

I used to only game on PC. I still prefer really in depth RPGs on PC like DA:O but most stuff even shooters, I just enjoy more lately on console. I have no problem with FPS on controller. Yes I'm still a little better on a mouse because it is so easy but I'm very comfortable/proficient with a controller.

My computer is hooked up to my 46 in plasma via HDMI and it looks fine but I still have to sit up and use a kb/m like I do all day at work (for most games)

When I was young there was a small but noticable learning curve with PC. However, since I was 16 and bought my first PC, it was second nature to me. So like others, the only reason why I would play a console is for sports games. I always found shooters and strategiess to be more enjoyable on small but higher res screen with mouse and keyboard support.

With the younger generations becoming more techadvanced or savvy, I'm surprised PC gaming hasn't really flourished more. Though I do blame Microsoft for most of it's short comings. Which include the Xbox360, piss poor developer support, easy access to pirating and copying, and so fourth.

I gave up on PC games after encountering far too many problems. That and it got too expensive to keep up with the hardware. But, I kind of want to get back in them now. Not sure what's good though.

I purchased a PS3 and played through a Resistance FOM rental with a friend on split screen. That was the highlight of my gaming experience with consoles. I tried to get into them, but I just could not do it. But, the PS3 is a slick media hub / Blu-Ray player, so no regrets on the purchase even though it is not used for games.

Nearly all of the games that I play are PC exclusives or have community made mods that make the game far more enjoyable that are only available on the PC. I do not know what I would do without player made mods.

Yet you have a 5770.

Yeah, that's what I meant by wanting to get back into it. I bought Fallout 3 a while back, and I wanted to get back into FSX. Both of which my 3850 seemed to struggle with at higher resolutions. I had bought it for Mass Effect, then the SecuROM scandal broke out. I just picked up the 5770 a couple weeks ago. I've been playing Sim City 4 on my laptop a lot as well recently.

I think I might get Assassin's Creed 2 for PC when it comes out eventually. Nothing beats the customization of PC gaming, which I miss.

but in the end you basically HAVE TO PAY FOR CONSOLE GAMES...$40-$60 a game adds up.
You have to pay for console games? Since when? I have the BB unlimited pass, so for $23 a month, and I can swap out games and movies 10 times a day if I felt like it. Not much more than a WOW sub costs.

I tried to get into consoles and bought a PS3, but played it for only for 3 months and sold it. I did find a few good games eg. Ratchet and Clank, NBA 2K9 but mostly just single player. Nothing like TF2 (or other MP games) on a 32 player server, mouse and kb rocks :)

The only console game I am really interested in is Gran Turismo 5. Console FPS's are a pathetic failure, same with their RPGs and RTS's. I'm planning to buy a PS3 whenever GT5 comes out, but the only games I will purchase for it besides GT5 are some PS3 exclusives like Uncharted or games of that nature. For everything else my PC will give a better gaming experience.

IMO the xbox360 tries too hard to be a PC, and ends up being a dumbed down experience that appeals to the average 15-25 year old idiot who talk about their "LAN parties" where they bring over a bunch of xboxes to the same house and do "the system link thing" :awe:. I really can't stand Xbox360 gamers, the majority of them have no concept of games outside the big Xbox games - Halo, Call of Duty, Gears of War, and GTA.

The Wii has no games that interest me. If I wanted to play Mario games I can emulate N64 games on my PC and probably get better graphics than the Wii can do D:.

I am not against playing console games at all though i don't own a single console currently.

I really wish they would release more of the rpg's you find the playstation systems on the PC. It's probably the only genre i really feel is lacking on the pc. (I am not talking about games like Neverwinter Nights or Dragon Age, but more like the Final Fantasy series"

I enjoy my PS3 quite a bit, but I have a separate idea of what games I want to play on the PC compared to the console. I enjoy racing games (DiRT), band games (RB2 & GHWT), some rpg games (FF), and action-adventure games (R&C, Ninja Gaiden, etc.) on the console. I like more involved rpgs (Oblivion), RTS (WC3), and fps (COD4) on the PC. Even though some games like Oblivion are available on both systems, I much prefer playing that kind of game on the PC.

I know that I could get a keyboard & mouse for the PS3 or use a controller on the PC to get a similar feel to those games, but there's also a big difference in the setting. I don't want to play DiRT while sitting in my leather chair in front of my computer desk, and I wouldn't want to play WC3 from my couch. Another difference for me is that I tend to buy games for my PC that I would want to play for hours at a time, because I don't usually have the luxury of comandeering the TV for an entire evening for a gaming session (unless my wife's playing too).

I have always done the same thing, but nowadays with shooters taking over the console market I'm finding it more pointless for me to have a console. Almost every single multi-platform game that comes out I would rather have on my PC (especially since most of them are shooters to some extent). The game I play on my consoles the most right now is RB2 or GH5, other than that I stick almost exclusively to my PC.

Frankly I'm a married (with 2 kids) software developer and have main hobbies of tennis and chess. Between family, hobbies and staying current in my job market I have little time for games so I simply buy the best (good reviews) RPGs that are available cheap.

I'm still playing custom NWN1 mods because they kick ass and there are some good NWN2 mods too. The kids went to Grandma's so I got 12 hours in on the OC of NWN 2 and I still haven't beaten it (running the keep was actually interesting). I dropped $40 to pick up a PS2, FF10 and FFXII then traded some games for Dragon Quest and Planescape:Torment while upgrading my PC video card to a 4350 for $35 a couple months back. Quite simply I have the luxury of only playing good games at low prices. On my list of things to pick up at the right price point are DA:O and Disgaia 2.

Edit: I've got a wii and it's great family fun. My 4 year old daughter thinks it's a blast and bowls pretty well.

I've no interest in xbox/ps3; hate the controllers. I do like the wii (or the two or three games I played with it; but not sure I want to play those types of games bymyself).

There have been some interesting console only games (esp for the p3) and if they worked well with a keyboard it would be tempting to consider a p3 (esp since it can double as a blue-ray palyer; though I've heard it does not do as good of a job in this area as a pc or dedicated player).

I do not regret purchasing my PS3...while I don't have many games for the system, it has been valuable as a Blu-ray player.

The verdict is still out on my recently purchased Wii. We only have Wii Sports and Wii Play for it, so it is not a very good sample size.

I do regret buying my XBOX 360 instead of a 60 GB PS3, though in my defense, at the time, the PS3 was $600 and had like no decent games in its library. Everything I want to play can be had on the PS3, and the PS3 has free online play and doesn't RROD. Not to mention I absolutely hate Microsoft points and the fact that you always get screwed because you can never spend the exact amount that you need. Oh, and the ridiculous price you have to pay for a new 360 HDD, since the majority of 360s for the first few years only shipped with a 20 GB HDD (if any).

I've been a console gamer since I was 7 and a PC gamer since I was 12, and my interest in both is way down in recent years since the quality of games has generally declined rapidly.

I definitely agree with these statements. I wish I would've bought a PS3 as well but as with your case, it was about $600 when I bought my Xbox 360.

While I have really enjoyed the Xbox games I have, I am very disappointed in Microsoft for how they've handled the RROD debacle and their seemingly constant gouging of consumers on accessories, XBL, etc. I was planning on buying a PS3 early next year (if I don't get one for Xmas), but I will have to wait and see how many games I think I might buy before I commit to that purchase. At any rate, as I said in another thread in this forum a few weeks ago, there is probably no way I would consider buying the next Xbox unless a number of extremely unlikely scenarios fell into place (big price break for victims of RRODs, more fair accessory prices, free XBL, etc).

I've been a console gamer since I was 7 and a PC gamer since I was 12, and my interest in both is way down in recent years since the quality of games has generally declined rapidly.

I definitely agree with this assessment as well. PC games, in my opinion, have been declining for years and console games seem to be following this trend. I got my wife a Wii for Christmas so hopefully, that will be a good change of pace for us.

PC for me. (90% of my gaming)
Wii for me AND my family (my wife loves jamming out to Guitar Hero and my 15mo old loves to play with the wiimotes).

I prefer to not play FPS games on consoles as just like the OP I prefer k/m. But I bought the console so the family can all play together, thats the only reason.

I think this applies to me as well. Frankly, the only real reason I ever wanted a console was because of the large variety of sports games. I am a big sports fan so I did see myself buying multiple basketball or hockey games, for example.

Unfortunately, we've seen a ton of consolidation of sports titles on the consoles as well, due to exclusivity agreements, acquisitions, etc. But seeing as how the PC sports game market has basically collapsed, I guess I have to take what I can get with the consoles.

gszx1337,

No, I’m not trying to be a troll. I’m just sick of forums started by elitist PC gamers with absurd notions about the significance (or supposed lack thereof) of console gaming.

One of OP’s specific complaints with console games was that he feels that he’d “own” his would-be competition if he could use a keyboard and mouse. I find that to be a ridiculous point, because even the MOST console-obsessed gamer would admit that a mouse provides better control than a thumb joystick. That’s where my point came about that one’s ability to aim should not (and does not) sum up the entire experience of gaming as a whole.

The availability of a mouse to a PC gamer should not be considered a strong point of the platform. It isn’t like all of your online competition won’t also have mice as their input devices. Therefore, the tired argument of “I can aim better than a console gamer” is irrelevant as the two should never be pitted against each other.

As for console games working: I can make PC games work, sure, but that takes effort (varying between next-to-none and moderate). However, there is NO effort with a console. Yes, I’m knowledgeable about PC games, but you can’t claim that getting a PC game to run on a PC is easier than running a console game on a console (maybe easy, but NOT easier). Remember, I’m not saying that PC gaming isn’t feasible (far from it), just that it isn’t the exclusive platform on which to enjoy gaming.

Here’s another instance of you missing my point. This thread asks if people are uninterested in console games. My post was to counter that by proposing it would be foolish to discount console games. Obviously there are exclusive PC games and ones released earlier. All I’m doing is showing you shouldn’t exclude console games if you want to enjoy all gaming.

Yes, console gamers probably tend to be younger than PC gamers. At the same time, your point about screen size must follow the same logic. Sure, your friend has a 60” TV for his PC. Still, I’d bet you that the AVERAGE screen size hooked up to a console is larger than the average screen size hooked up to a PC. My point still stands.

I think it really depends on the games for the platform. I bought into the hype and got The Conduit on Wii and never play it because the only reason I got it was for online play.

I even got the stupid Wii Speak. Only to find out I need to add peoples Wii codes to hear them or voice chat. Just a stupid mess.

So while the Wii has good controls for shooters. It just doesn't hack it online. I want to jump in a game and talk to people. I think I'm gonna sell The Conduit & the Wii Speak.

Don't get me wrong. I enjoy the Wii and own a number of games for it. I just don't like playing online without being able to communicate with others.

I was debating on getting a PS3 or 360. However PC games have custom content and mods, which I enjoy.

The last console shooter I really enjoyed multiplayer wise is the TimeSplitters series. Man oh man would I love it, if they released a 4th. However the company went into the crapper and I think the rights is in the air. So who knows.

However EA blows ass and likes to shut down servers as soon as they can. So online play for Time Splitters: Future Perfect is gone. The level editor was so simple and fun in those games.

I still have my PS2. I think the only online games that are still played are games that use GameSpy like Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is still played online. Which is awesome with the create a fighter.

I don't mind console or PC games, just depends on the game really.

Of course it is a strong point of the platform. Just because we do not, or cannot play against console gamers does not nullify the benefit of KBM. It's not about competition between players, it's about overall enjoyment of the game and I can say from my, admittedly limited, experience with playing shooters on a console, the enjoyment level is much lower playing with a controller when compared to playing with KBM on a PC, all else being equal.

You couldn't be more wrong.

I first played Dead Space on the 360. How many times do enemies pop-out behind you unexpectedly? Countless. And in that game, you need to have precise aim to de-limb and kill them. Extremely frustrating on a controller for me and I ultimately quit after two chapters of play. I loved the atmosphere but, just like Bioshock, I can't stand shooters on controllers and this game made me suffer even more due to the increased emphasis on precision aim.

I bought Dead Space for the PC when it was on sale after Thanksgiving. I had to problem getting through the game this time since I was using KB+M.
