You do realize that the very far wings of both major political parties in the US have crazies that do crazy shit, right? I am not worried about their politics because we won't see any the US Congress authorizing genocide anytime soon, same thing with the really crazy shit from the far left.
As far as individual actions (such as violence), again both sides have their crazies and I tend to attribute their actions more to the "batshit crazy" part than to the politics. The politics didn't make them batshit crazy, they already were, and if not for the politics they would find something else to concentrate their batshit craziness on.
Earl is a decent guy, he just seems to let his personal experiences with "right" and "left" influence him to much. Instead of viewing them as one and the same.
They are whittling away at pretty much all of them. It would be easier to make a list of what rights the government isn't trying to intrude on.
"Take away" is way to strong of a word, if they did that we would all join sides and be pissed the hell off. Instead they slowly chip away at them while making the sheeple think that its necessary.
Shrug, it just bothers me that people attribute one thing or another to the reason some people are batshit crazy. We used to just call people who did really crazy shit crazy bastards and lock them up in rooms with padded walls. Just because they chose one avenue or another to express their batshit craziness doesn't mean that avenue actually made them batshit crazy.

Well, I have heard statements that THE GOVERNMENT is taking away our rights before. But when you ask these people to name which rights are being taken away they do not seemed to be able or want to answer the question with specifics.
Darwin wrote that the list of rights being attack was too long to list. So I asked him to list 10 rights.
Lets start with the right to due process.
Don't forget the right against unreasonable searches! (although I guess the recent GPS ruling was a step in favor of such a right)

Fair enough. It isn't the government who's dividing us into groups though. We have a cold culture war in this country which has been ongoing throughout our existence and has become more acute in recent years. The so-called ideological divide, not to mention the obvious socio-economic divide, is more a reflection of an underlying culture war than it is about political opinions. Yet this culture war is reflected in the our politics to a very great extent. I think you're viewing the problem as a top down problem when it really is more of a bottom up problem.

People today have no respect for our founding documents, or for any of the debate that happened at the founding of our country. The discourse was rich back then. Do you want 50 different pilot certifications, qualifications, and sets of work safety rules?
How about 50 different profit centered corporations running air traffic control.
50 different sets of radio communications rules?
50 different sets of aircraft maintenance regulations, parts standards?
50 different specifications for runways, safety equipment, and security?
50 different versions of VFR and IFR rules
each state responsible for its own GPS system and other nav aide specs?
50 different ways to co-ordinate with military flights?
50 different fuel quality and handling standards?
even 50 different ways to figure out what time it is.
I can't see any of this as being superior to having the feds run all of this.
The states have neither the budget nor the expertise for these things. States sometimes support business without regard for their citizens (i.e. W. Virginia/coal) Corporations can factor in litigation/settlements for wrong doing (even including wrongful death) as a cost of doing business. I can't see advocasy groups being effective here either.

While I do agree that the government is chipping away at some of these rights, saying there should be no federal government or that it should be involved in very few affairs just isn't practical and leads to even more inefficiency and a complicated sets of rules for anything that is in multiple states.
