Is that the new BMI chart? I'm 6'4", and it says 6'3" should be 202 on the high side. When I weighed 202, I was very thin and wearing a size 30 waist. At 212 I'm in a 32 waist and still fairly thin.

Chart seems off.

I don't pay attention to these things. I'm 6'5" and 180lbs with an athletic build runner/biker). My blood work is always good and If anything, I've felt even younger as I age since I have improved the type if food I eat and my sleeping schedule over the last 5+ years. I'm 34 now and don't see my weight ever really changing.

5' 11" at 240.

I have fat, but I powerlift. Squat over 430 and deadlift over 500.

I don't think that chart is too useful for someone like me.

5'7", just under 190lbs here, so according to the chart I could lose another 20lbs. However, I'm pretty muscular and a size 34 is loose on me.

My LBM alone is 205; if I had literally 4% bodyfat I'd be at 213 lbs, at 6'2". That chart is entirely bogus for people with any sizable muscle mass.

Target Weight is 175 damn, I am 225 was 255 in Aug. I want to break into the 190s but I think 175 will have me looking like a twig lol

Is power lifting some kind of trendy excuse or innuendo I'm not familiar with?

Arnold is 6'2" and weighed 235-240 as Mr Universe.

Thats bodybuilding, where you train in order to make yourself "look" good. Tends to involve medium weights at high repetitions and usually don't get bulky. Also when he won MR. Universe, he was at the lowest possible weight possible for those competitions. They starve themselves at the last second to shed a ton of weight fast to make their muscles show.

Powerlifting is training for sheer strength without regard to how you look. You tend to get fat on it because you're eating alot to support muscle growth and muscles themselves weigh alot. Also fat is useful because it adds extra support to your core when you're doing heavy weights.

My thighs at my peak will not fit into pants that are 5 sizes too big for me at my waist because i bulk up so much.

Arnold also cut a lot of weight in the weeks leading up to the competition to look so defined. His training weight was around 260-270.

Bodybuilding is very different from powerlifting. In powerlifting your goal is to be strong, not defined, so having fat isn't necessarily a bad thing - although you do compete in weight classes, so there is motivation to not be a fat tub of lard.

I tend to follow bulk-and-cut cycles, not terribly unlike a bodybuilder's routine. When I'm competing in the 165 weight class, I'll generally bulk up to around 175, building muscle/strength along with some fat, and then cut down to competition weight in the month leading up to the meet. Similarly, for the 148 class, I train a bit closer to 160.

Either way, the point of bringing it up is that BMI simply accounts for your body mass, not your body fat. A powerlifter may not be as ripped as a bodybuilder, but chances are a large amount of their weight comes from muscle mass, which means their BMI is going to be very high, and not an accurate scale of whether or not they are healthy. In my personal example, sure, there is fat on my body. I don't have a six pack. But it would be silly to call my weight unhealthy, even when I'm in the 170s.

Yeah, powerlifting is pretty different from bodybuilding. But the people here who are above 200lbs / under 6' and don't do any lifting, yeah, you're just fat.

Interesting. I looked at the world champion in your weight division do a 866 lb squat. Fuck. However I don't think that guy is fat at all.

If you got something like this going on then high five.

They do a massive cut before competitions. They need weight control to stay in their respective weight classes. During a bulk, they are MUCH fatter.

But yeah, i do shit like that. I'm only at 445 squat right now. At this point more than that feels like my back will snap in half.

He's lifting in gear, which adds a lot of support and lets you lift a lot more weight. I lift raw - no support gear other than a belt. I've done 398 in the gym, best in competition was 385.

I lifted in USAPL Raw Nationals in 2011. The guy that won my weight class (165s) is a beast. He reps 595 in deadlifts and it doesn't even look hard: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jX2-yt5B7XM

I'm 6'1, and between 170-175, but I have a fair bit of flab around my waist. I was about 210 during the summer, and I lost weight all over except for my gut.
