Are you older than the internet?

Lifer
At the IPTO, Licklider got Lawrence Roberts to start a project to make a network, and Roberts based the technology on the work of Paul Baran,[4] who had written an exhaustive study for the U.S. Air Force that recommended packet switching (as opposed to circuit switching) to make a network highly robust and survivable. After much work, the first two nodes of what would become the ARPANET were interconnected between UCLA and SRI (later SRI International) in Menlo Park, California, on October 29, 1969. The ARPANET was one of the "eve" networks of today's Internet.

We will say October 29, 1969 was the 'birth' of the internet. So are you older than the internet?

Yup, but only the "Internet" we know. Not the Internet the Roswell Aliens used to IM a distress call back home: OMG! The Earthlings are shooting at us, sutained damage, going down!! WTF is wrong with these people??????

Am I older than Ethernet? No. Am I older than the commercially and privately owned network that is the common day "Internet" dating back to the late 1980s, yes.

The birth of TCP/IP and Ethernet was not the birth of the World Wide Web or what we call The Internet.

Which was about 44 seconds after congress legalized commercialization of the internet. (which was in ~1993 or so?)

But IMO, the BBS's of the 80's were the true predecessor to todays internet.

no, you will say that. i will say that the internet didn't exist until the early 90's. arpanet is not the fucking internet, the internet is the fucking internet.

Using that date...I was in high school when teh intarwebs were invented. Less than 90 days later, I was in boot camp...and heading to Vietnam.

I'm definitely younger, but I do remember using Prodigy a lot.

Does that give me any age credibility?

Probably not. A lot of you guys are OOOLLLLDDDD 😀
