I beat the internet by about 11 months. Assuming people used the posted dates, I'm surprised at the number of geezers here :^D

I consider 1982 the birth year of the internet (the year TCP/IP was created)

I predate the printing press. I was here before the 10 commandments. Sheeit, when the peel back the universe, they'll find me smiling before the big bang. :D

1969 was not the real internet. BBS's dont qualify either.
The real internet used a web browser and was able to pick up almost any kind of cool stuff you wanted just by using a search engine. It was when almost any schmuck could get on (assuming their system and ISP was already set up for them) and find cool shit with a minimum of hassle.
I would suggest the mid 90's was the start of the real internet. Win95 was a huge boon to the regular world. Even though it was full of bugs it was a hundred times better than Win3.1. And it was a hell of a lot more accessable than DOS. It made regular people get seriously interested in home computing. One of the most important features was its ease of accessing the mysterious internet, which most folks had only dreamt of.

In '69, my high school had a half ton, 10ft. long, tube driven, card punch computer. When the teacher wasn't around we would hook it up the phone line, and download scenes from, "I am curious yellow."
What, you didn't ?

The real question if there is anyone on AT older than BoomerD?!?!

BTW, I, also, am older than the internet, but I was probably still in diapers when the internet was born. (And, no, that does not mean last week.)

HEY! Fuck you guys...I resemble that remark. :D

BUT, IIRC, there are a few people on here who are older than I am. (not many, but a few)

They may however, be at the activity session in the retirement home and can't reply to this thread.
