No. A few years ago, I came down with Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS). While I recovered just fine, I am at a higher risk of contracting the disease again. And since the flu shot has been shown to induce GBS in a limited number of cases, I'm not taking the risk.

And before you call me a wuss, GBS is a condition wherein the immune system attacks the myelin sheath around the nerves. Symptoms start with numbness in the extremities, which doesn't sound like a big deal until you realize that nerve damage is involved. Not to mention that it can quickly lead to respiratory failure by interfereing with your brain's ability to communicate with the muscles involved in breathing. Damn scary disease if you ask me.

Grats on the recovery. Know 2 guys in my area that got it. One was William "The Fridge" Perry of the Bears fame. He ended up on a breathing machine until they got it under control.
 
I haven't had the flu since I was probably 5-7yrs old. I probably haven't had a flu shot since then either. I also don't worry about germs like other people do.

I rarely get sick, maybe once every 2 years.
 
I got the flu 5 years ago, that's the only time I can remember having it. (It was shortly after I got married, and we both got the flu around the same time... guess we found out about the "in sickness" part of the vow early on. 😛 )
 
Absolutely. My school gave them out to students for free (yes, it was actually free to me, since tuition and fees are part of my grad-compensation).

But working in a small office, it's really up to me to wash my hands and avoid people who are sick. I really doubt the flu shot would help me a whole lot.

How do you avoid people that are asymptomatic at the time but still contagious?

Uhhh I don't. I go on living my life as usual. Crazy huh? Haven't had the flu is 15-20 years, guess it works. Sure I might get it, oh well. I'd rather get the flu once every 5 years than take a yearly vaccine and still get it once every 5 years.
 
I used to get the flu shot and every year I would get horrible illness the days following the flu shot that lasted for a week. I would also get horrible flu like illnesses anyways during the winter.

Now I don't get the shot. I save 1 week of sick days.

The flu shot does not give you the flu. You're a certified idiot if you think it does.
