no, it's just that the chances are slim that you'll be protected by the flu shot for whatever strain of flu is going around. that the vaccine is typically made for two different strains of flu type a and one strain of flu type b the year prior... and they're almost always wrong. they make educated predictions on what strains are going to be big the following year so they can start pumping out enough vaccines for everyone. then flu season hits and it usually turns out that the flu vaccine is pointless because the major strains of flu going around are different than the ones originally predicted. around the same number of people get and die from the flu every year regardless of how many people get the flu shot.

taking vitamin d supplements and washing your hands regularly is a much better way to stay safe from the flu than to rely on a flu shot.

The VAST MAJORITY of doctor get their flu shot every year, do you know why? Because they are more educated then you and they know that the flu shot reduces their chance of getting the flu. It's that simple.

Let me sum it up for you: The flu shot is guarantied to reduce your chance of getting the flu AND it is safe.

That's why I get it every year.

Any questions?

I bet you're scared of needles.

I have no problem with people who don't feel they need the flu shot, it's a personal choice however don't tell me the vacine doesn't work or that it gave you the flu. It's a blatant self serving lie.

My primary care physician does not recommend getting the vaccine. He will give it to you if you ask, but he will tell you its better to just get the flu... especially if you aren't in a particularly high risk category.

Also, this doctor prescribes more shots then any other I have gone to, so he isn't afraid of the drugs.

I totally don't feel like shit for 1 week after a flu shot. This 100% didn't happen for years in a row and it 100% didn't stop happening when I stopped getting the shot.

Pretty rare for a physician to NOT recommend the flu shot. Hopefully he's on board with whooping cough, pertussis vaccines. While you or I may not have complications from it we can pass it on to others who could die from it. Ask the parents of the infants in California whose babies recently died from whooping cough which likely was contracted from those who weren't immunized or needed to be re-immunized.

Being in the health care field I am mandated to get a flu shot because I work closely with people, and some that if they contracted the flu could die from it. That's also a consideration with getting the flu shot, not only for yourself, but the fact you could pass it to others.

We don't do it so that we're protected from the flu. We do it so that our patients, many of whom are already immunocompromized, don't get it while we're carrying it around.

Yes, he recommends most vaccines just not the flu vaccine unless you are high risk.

No, I never get one.

This. In fact, last time I got the vaccine (4 years ago) I had a bad reaction to it and was out of commission for a day, missed going to a concert with my friends in the process. So the vaccine has actually harmed me more than the actual flu. :p

No idea. From what I was told I was one of those people who basically "get" a mild case of the flu after taking the vaccine. Much lower scale than the real deal, but still strong enough to give me a fever just shy of 100. (keeping in mind my "normal" is a little low at around 98.0)

because it isn't. the vaccine is more effective than flumist for adults.

This is the case some years, probably depending on the influenza strain, but not always. But in general, attenuated vaccines promote a stronger immunity than inactivated vaccines do. Influenza's a little different though.

I suspect they need to tweak the delivery or something like that for the attenuated vaccines so that they're more consistent from year to year. If they can get that figured out, the attenuated will probably be more reliable in adults as well.

Yes, I work in a Hospital.

um where in my posted it say that it wouldn't work or I would give you the flu?

I never told you. in fact, I was against people who were trolling you whenever you were claiming that the world was gonna end in 2025. why told me?

by the way, no, I'm not afraid of needles.

also, nothing that I said false.

I'm concerned about thimerisol powered tracking devices. Also I'm an uneducated buffoon who wrongly believes it will give me the flu. So no, I won't be protecting myself from a painful, inconvenient disease that I could potentially pass on to someone far more vulnerable than myself.

that has a lot to do it it. the other part is just how much ignorance there is out there about how by to mindy can keep you healthy. there is a strong connection between decreased vitamin d in the body and catching diseases very easily, like the flu. this is probably why more people get the flu and cold in the fall and winter months, people have decreased vitamin d because there's just not as much sunlight to naturally provided it.

While I don't disagree with you about the flu vaccine, I would say that doctors are not more educated, they have just all been indoctrinated into a western medicine way of thinking - that is, lets throw the most potent thing we can find to alleviate the symptom and not bother asking questions about how we got to this point. The number one reason they get it is that as doctors, to treat all the flu victims they will in the winter and not be protected is silly.

And fear of needles is very silly, it literally hurts less then nothing. Having said that, I got the flu shot for the first time two days ago. I'm 33 with two toddlers at home. I got it so I can avoid being out of commission for an extended amount of time and to keep from giving it to them or my coworkers. Its not a big deal to get it or not to get it.

EDIT: Might I add that due to the "minor symptoms" of the vaccine I thought I was gonna die the night before... fever, chills, aches, terrible stomach upset... All better now but still..

there are hand sanitizers that kill viruses and flu viruses in particular.

http://www.cdc.gov/H1N1flu/qa.htm

" What kills influenza virus?
Influenza virus is destroyed by heat (167-212°F [75-100°C]). In addition, several chemical germicides, including chlorine, hydrogen peroxide, detergents (soap), iodophors (iodine-based antiseptics), and alcohols are effective against human influenza viruses if used in proper concentration for a sufficient length of time.

So there's one out that provides a bucket that has iodine, bleach, or H202 to soak your hands in? Link it.

You want to rethink your request for link?
Edit: Oh wait, I was too quick with my retort. Your point was the " sufficient length of time". I retract.
