No matter what your personal income, job etc, we are ALL worse off since Jan 2009. The amount of money each of us owes in national debt has exploded, we've all lost a lot.

Very good point indeed. I'm slightly worse off, but while I don't like much that Obama has done I'm not blaming him (or Bush) for it. I blame Congress and natural human greed and short-sightedness for worsening a normal bust business cycle.

No change. The president, regardless of party, doesn't control my life. That's up to me.

Worse. Lost my job and with all the garbage that the .gov is going to foist on business, it'll be interesting to see if anyone's going to hire anymore. The thing that was killing the business that I was in was that prospective clients were afraid to spend money.

I had cancer in January of 2009, I don't now. I'd say I'm much better off... hahaha.

We've all lost something whether we realize it or not, an entire decade of economic growth evaporated last year over the course of a few months. If we all had the same level of experience now and were at the same point in our careers circa 2000-2001, there's no doubt that we'd be doing better then as compared to now, that's a fact.

You can't be serious. One tax one law have destoryed or made businesses and/or people. How about all those Auto workers in Mi still working due to govt bailout.

As a general concept I agree life is what you make it but we are always adapting to govt mechanizations.

Government can destroy industry with the stroke of a pen, I acknowledge that. That doesn't change the fact that if I don't like my situation, I change it. Unless they lock me up and throw away the key, government can't make my life better or worse because I choose to be the master of my own fate.

2009 has been my best year ever financially but every year has been better than the year before for the last 15 years.

Better in virtually every conceivable way.

However, none of it had to do with Obama, nor would I have attempted to blame him if things had gone wrong. Unlike so many of you, I actually take responsibility for my successes and failures, rather than sitting back and whining that it was someone else's fault.

Agreed. Hear that all you people complaining about getting laid off, it's YOUR fault. Now buck up, bootstraps, rugged individualism, er, when in Rome, etc..

When you get laid off, maybe not your fault - when you don't get another job...yea, that IS your fault.

So, uhh, 10% of the workforce have no jobs, and it's their fault they haven't come up with a new one, right?

Utterly lame.

Better. No cost-of-living raise last year but was promoted, and I'll be in a great spot for the next promotion in a year or so to a good management position I've had my eye on for a while. The industry I work in went through a rough patch in the last 18 months or so but is no longer in danger of imploding. The company I work for was profitable throughout the downturn (albeit at a reduced level) and I'm in almost no risk of being laid-off. My wife is doing similarly well in her field, which is basically recession-proof.

Away from work, things were better as well. We raised our charitable contributions and hope to again this year. After a couple of years of not being able to get away, we took advantage of the recession pricing to take a 3 week trip to Australia, and finally replace my 16-year old car. We're looking to begin having children next year.

Full disclosure: Libertarian-leaning moderate who leans conservative on fiscal issues, and liberal on social issues. I'm somewhat lukewarm on Obama, but hoping for the best for him. I don't think his economic program is doing much to help, but so far he's also not done anything to completely screw things up either.
