Is this a trick question? As of now were the same . My wife has regained the 401K money she lost . So were even . But Obama lies more than bush ,were deeper in debt country wise. I won't lay blame on anyone here as to how we get here because it seems to me the crooks are in power and have been for some time . Hmm, I'm not sure how to vote. Our family income for 2009 will be down about 15% from 2008. This has nothing to do with Obama and little to do with the overall economy though. I make more overtime when people do stupid stuff (I work in environmental response) and people weren't stupid as often in 2009 as they were in 2008 so I had fewer overtime hours. However, my 401K has recovered fairly well in 2009 so net is up. It looks like my company has weathered the storm and any further downsizing will be through attrition/retirements. We've drastically cut our only debt (mortgage) through pre-payment of principal and put ourselves on track to have the loan gone in less than five years. Overall, we're in better shape now than when Obama took office and uncertainty over the near future is reduced so I guess I'll vote "better".

The percentages show approx 61% are doing no worse or better than last year. Therfore his premise for starting this thread failed.

Worser. I Used to make 50K-100K a pop each house I built and built 23 under Bush now none. Folded up shop after losing about 120K on last two. Some Idiot builders I know lost thier own house as they refused to take a loss and wanted 2007 pricing. Hay I feel for ya. But! You guys were overcharging and still are . If material cost is $100,000 charging $200,000 is just WRONG. I tried to get contractor to build my new shop Garage. He was Crazy stupid high. Many many are seeing this now .

Ya know what I did? I am Good carpenter. Fact is I am good at everthing I do, But I have lost ability to do the WORK .

So I hired a crack head to do the work . It turned out great . I went online to purchase my radiant floor boiler for 1/2 what contractors wanted. Than there was the install price . I lol . So I taught my wife how to sweet copper tubing and she did the install . A video coming to Utube soon to show others how to do it yourself boiler install. I also taught wife how to wire the Shop /garage she did great. I wish I could have used the crack head for this but thats illeagal in my state . But mywife was legeal . Everthing has been inspected and was better than fine according to the inspectors . Am I a cheap ass . No I am not. Instead of 24 on center rafters I went 16 on center . Was my boiler install cheaper than my contractor ? No it was't . But I used the best parts available , Including a Mixer /Feeder.

I ended up $200 dollars higher than contractor . That same contractor installed my gas line . By law I had to use a contractor because we can't buy the supply line . You know what happened. The contractor was so impressed with our install he asked if he could copy it .

He also left scratching his head. Why? Because I purposely installed the concentric flue upside down . According to all I should have condensation draining back from the air intake onto top of boiler . I showed him the math to why it wasn't occurring on this system . He is clueless.

Edit: From the poll results it appears that the overwhelming majority of the site's visitors are doing the same or better. I am surprised by that given the state of our economy. I'm also very comforted by the results in the face of these challenging times. The way the mainstream media reports it you would think that massive death/suffering and rioting in the streets are just around the corner.

We are far from an implosion. Just take a walk around a store like Costco. Probably Wal-Mart of Target or any similar bargain price outlet would be similar. Almost all of the items filling the shelves are discretionary, not fundamental needs. Americans are by and large far from the precipice. It's toughest on those in foreclosure, out of work, going bankrupt, can't pay their bills. Even if you are not among those it's nuts, really, they try to make you think that you've got it good when in reality it's very rough. It's been like that for decades but it's gotten worse. They try to sell you on the idea that a new car will have you in the lap of convenience and luxury when in actuality you are apt to find yourself in an indigestion inducing traffic jam almost any hour of the day, not just "rush hour" anymore.
