I'm in for an ATOT bot, if you guys are down.

It will definitely be alternator sized, moves like spider, and have solutions all over it.

what a sad showing for plan x/what a sick falcon punch to the face by bronco

I like it that they said plan x was too big to flip. Boink, game over. I wonder why their spinner wasn't working? I'm not sure i understood the logic of a downward spinner

I feel like they should have made the area above the screws slopped so bots wouldn't get stranded up there. That's really a boring way for a fight to end.

Curious how Bronco and Tombstone would match up. Will probably find out in the semi-final.

It'll come down to Tombstone vs Bronco as long as they don't do anything stupid.

Overdrive's driving was terrible, lol.

Can't wait for Ghost Raptor to get destroyed.

Yeah, I kinda want to see that Shaman mini bot explode in a giant fireball when Tombstone tears through it's fuel tank for the flamethrower.

Who the fuck builds a plastic robot for this type of thing? Its almost like it was on the show just so it could be torn to pieces. I cant even figure how how that fucking thing could win against anything.

Yeah I've been watching them recently. That bot Tombstone that has a spinner blade isn't gonna get beat as long as that spinner malfunctions or something. Its sitting on 2 wheels and can turn on a dime, its symmetrical, so flipping it won't beat it. We already got the battlebots winner. No contest. I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess Tombstone's blade is made out of high speed steel and has carbide inserts on the tips. That's similar to what milling machines use to machine metal. That's basically what Tombstone is, a milling machine on 2 wheels.

I never got the point of Warhead - where's the threat? I'm going to rub my spinning dome against you. Twitch my useless tail, raise my arms. Yikes.

That spinning dome has hooks on it, so it can do some damage, but its nowhere near as devastating as Tombstone's spinning blade. I've seen warhead's spinner make contact with other bots, and they typically go flying back when hit with it. So there is the potential to knock someone up on the edge of the ring with it for a KO. Its also possible for warhead to get a position on another bot and use those arms to pin it, while the spinning head digs into it while it can also be used to push them into a hazard. Other than that, the bot looks like it was designed for aesthetics more than practicality. It DOES look cool, so I can't take that away from it.

did witch doctor reinforce it's front shield/ramp? did not expect it to hold up like that.

bronco almost owned itself by bad driving/decisions.

and the ghost raptor team is lame, changing "weapons" every match and modifying to hard counter icewave's design. it's basically doing what the netguy did to him.

MIT team lost because the asian guy with the cat ears was creepy as hell. :hmm:

It surprises me that, although people spend so much time and money creating their robot, they can't seem to be bothered to at least look up the history of it to see what works and what not. Robot Wars was on 15 years ago and already showed that a self-righting mechanism is pretty much needed on any robot unless it can move the same on its back.

Walkers don't work (people tried that yet again), spinners and crushers can do massive damage but need defense against being flipped, and a strong enough flipper activated at the right time can throw someone out of the arena. If you have extremely low ground clearance you can survive against a flipper too.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9BkusoCLtQ (low ground clearance crusher vs flipper)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qgJefmW5tk (spinner vs walker)

If you want to look up what worked back then in the different seasons, the most succesful bots were Hypnodisc (very powerful spinner), Razer (crusher) and Chaos II (flipper).

AFAIK I doubt it is carbide. While it is harder it is also brittle. I'd imagine it is mild steel

Yeah since it didn't bring the mini bot, witch doctor put a bunch of metal plates on the front. I don't like all the modding either, should be a run what you brung event. Have replacement parts for what breaks, but no design changes. I guess that makes it more entertaining for TV.

And yes, MIT guy was weird. Did you see the announcer guy when the team was doing their wave thing to the crowd? His expression was 'WTF are you guys doing?'

Bot noob here. How are the bots made safe in the arena? Are they prevented from activation somehow?

In what way didn't they win? They mitigated pretty much all of Tombstone's damage and controlled him the whole match. That's the only way to fight Tombstone. May not be as entertaining with parts flying everywhere, but that's how it goes. Had Tombstone been able to get behind him and land some shots on his treads, it would have been all different. But that's good driving.

Bite force was awesome in their fight. They kept attacking tombstone with that wedge and literally controlled the entire fight.

Awesome finals, I was rooting for tombstone but its weakness was evident in quarter finals and definitely in the semis. If it has to hit too many times then it damages itself. In quarter its broke its main weapon in an attempt to take out its opponent, it was lucky that its opponent was taken out too. In the semis its belly poped open damaging its batteries. It was a unneeded move, Bronco was already down but Tombstone wanted to hit it one final time and in the process damaged itself. At that point I said, all you need to win against Tombstone is withstand 3 or 4 of its blows and it will self destruct. And that's exacly what happened, after the 3rd blow smoke started coming out of Tombstone, Bite force was able to withstand all of Tombstone's blows, and then push him around, not sure what else needed to be done to win. BF won fare and square.

I think Bite Force deserved the win. After Tombstone lost its weapon, it just didn't do much.

bite force didn't do much the whole match.

i guess i gotta watch it again.

It was the aggressor and was able to keep attacking and pushing Tombstone around. It also had Tombstone pinned for 10 seconds, which was something in the rules as maximum time allowed to do what it did.

I guess I fail to see how that "pin" actually did damage - I guess BattleBots had Mayweather's favorite judges behind the glass ^_^
