The problem with these highly kinetic energy bots (Tombostone) is they have the ability to do TONS of damage to themselves. If they don't get an near instant kill on the 1st shot every time they bump up against the other robot, or the area wall etc they have the likelihood to get put on a slight angle. Once on an angle, and that massive (jesus it's huge) blade touches the ground it causes the whole bot to go flying. The jarring on the robot and it's internals has to be brutal.
Look what happened to Tombstone in the semi finals. He went in for a pointless deathblow at the end, and nearly destroyed his machine ("body" broke apart, batteries all over the area floor) etc. These kinetic machines seem to be an all or nothing proposition.
I was AMAZED at how well Witch Doctor stood up. That front shield was solid and that compact 60lb wheel was just devastating.
Flipper bots (Bronco) are a great attack. If they are built to take a punishment, and can get one or two solid flips in, they should last a long time. I think the idea there is let the other bots weight (250lbs) be it's own worse enemy on impact when it lands. That and get those spinners to deal damage on itself as I explained above.
Plan X? WTF... just go home.
I love when bots have fire, but the chance of it doing ACTUAL damage is just slim to none. You'd have to hold the opponent in place for some time and cook it. Just never going to happen.
And WTF is with the area design? Why are there spots where the ENTIRE bot can get stuck (I forget who Bronco flipped into there). Or for that matter just flat "rails" along the edge where other bots got stuck (Witch Doctor). That design was pathetic.
