Everything produced converts energy to $. Mining is just one of least efficient ways to do so and without any benefit to society. Still not any different than making Louis Vuitton bags.
Just it needs to be regulated, that's why we have government for.
If mining process A can be done with 0.000001% of energy usage that's being used today for it, then gov't should enforce that.

I saw a rumor that the 4000 series will be on TSMC 4nm, not 5nm. If true, it will be better than expected and obviously priced clear out of everyone's reach. Therefore, Jensen is just making himself a new GPU for his personal needs and we are stuck with $800 8GB 3070's for the next 3 years. Also, anyone supporting another price hike by Nvidia will serve 5 years in prison per $100 over previous gen prices.

There are some nice high end Sapphire cards on sale at newegg, for about MSRP, or in the case of the 6900XT, possibly less? See my post in hot deals. Prices are looking good, at least for some cards.

Kinda makes me wonder what the argument will be for the 6950XT?

Yes, this is in part based on the revelation that Nvidia paid a lot for TSMC's capacity, which makes it seems that they overpaid, but would make a lot more sense if they bought capacity for a more expensive process.

What exactly is that? I thought the RX 7000 series was out next.

No, the refresh is out soon.

There's an entire lineup of N6 and/or N7 Navi2 refresh products coming out. I think the idea was to EoL the existing 6000-series cards and replace them with newer ones so that people might have something to buy if they can't afford 7000-series cards.

If the 6900XT is dropping below MSRP, it's going to make it hard for AMD to move prices up on the refresh cards, or maybe even sell them at all, at least the 6950XT. Allegedly it's just the 6900XT but with some more memory bandwidth.

Not all cards will get a refresh. It's just the 6650/6750/6950 XT.

So presumably, the 6800 XT and the 6600/6500/6400 non-XT cards will remain the same.

Just like nvidia, the dont' want to sell the regular RTX 3080 for $699 and the RX 6800XT for $649, when they can sell essentially the same cards 3080Ti and 6900XT for +$3-400

It's very weird timing to increase the prices now, though.

One of the YouTube miners said that yeah, prices on GPUs are getting down to MSRP or below - on the cards that aren't popular with miners. Those still have a slight premium.

After all, "The Merge" was delayed a few more months/quarters. Some peeps are taking chances and buying more GPUs. (NOT many, but a few.)

Most people are in a holding pattern, until GPUs hit MSRP or below, though. Or until next-gen hits.

No, threatening people with prison time for any Ethereum mining is malicious nonsense. You can't jail people because it personally offends you. You especially shouldn't be calling for that in a thread in the tech forums.

Go back and read again what I wrote in the post you replied to.
Go ahead. It's unedited.

Do you see any mention of "prison time"?

No?

Then what hell are you rambling about and WTF is your problem - aside from greed, fear and/or complete disregard for the world you live in?

Yeah they may be 3rd party sellers, though newegg has those too.

Are you sure you are looking at actual Amazon prices or the scalpers?

Sold by Amazon. Checked now and there is a change from Friday. RX 6600s for $340 at last, as I cannot buy from Newegg from where I live (Caribbean) even though the packages are delivered to a US package courier address. Amazon, no problems.

I managed to come away with an RX6700XT at MSRP off of AMD.com earlier. I always seemingly get more excited with new hardware for my mini-itx build than for my main system.

Wonder if the anticipated economic slowdown/recession has got everyone pumping the breaks on luxury spending like GPUs.

If you've picked up a couple low interest rate loans over the last couple years and your job is relatively secure, cooling off the economy might actually be hugely beneficial to you from a purchasing power perspective.

In my country, consumer pessimism isn't impacting purchasing. Of course, saving money is a fool's game at the moment anyway and with rising inflation without rising interest rates (yet), it just becomes worse.

Consumer credit isn't that popular in my country compared to certain others, though.
