ok, the wild crazy rumors about nvidia are starting to really fly!

Unsupported rumors are flying around nvidia is massively oversupplied.

Also, unverified rumors have nvidia is cutting back on next gen production:
along with Apple.

However, the same rumors claim AMD is not cutting back on 5nm at all. Rumor has it AMD is not oversupplied, and AMD is moving to commit to a price war with RDNA3.

Wild delusional fantasies. Way to good to be true.

But it does not matter. The rumors are going to influence price even if false. We likely will see used 3090s going for less then $500 in a month or two. Prices on new cards will crash to, as people perceive Nvidia partners are going to move to clear the channel.

^ old news. Mentioned already on p43. And yes I agree, we should see more drastic price drops as we get closer to launch dates.

Maybe AMD will engage in a price war or maybe they won't. AMD is in a position to move N5 wafers in the server sector, though, which is somewhere that NV can't necessarily dump excess wafer allocation. Intel is exposed. The only things protecting them from a massive market push with Genoa are previous vendor commitments.

Nvidia's nightmare if they have to tell AIBs to withhold RTX 4000 inventory until the market becomes more conducive to higher pricing. Which is going to be a long while if the Flood happens in full force.

Inflation is going to whittle down the number of available buyers over the next few months too, which will drive down demand even farther.
We are definitely in the HOLD part of the battle. Someone needs to shop GPUs over the English calvary charging at Braveheart's men.

I do wonder, if I were a miner, and was not leasing the space for it, would I sell my inventory? We have had 2 mining booms in 5yrs. GPUs became stupid expensive both times. Unless you are absolutely certain there will not be a third boom, why sell when in a terrible market for sellers? After all, your mining cards have a bad rep already, which devalues them further. Perhaps miners best strategy is a Mexican standoff? I don't know crap about mining, so just guessing what I would do in that position.

That's a good point. Why not just keep them? For a home / hobbiest miner situation, that does make a lot of sense.

I'm only selling mine, because they need to be re-pasted, and I'm not so good at that. I guess, I buy cards, mine for a year and a half, make ROI and profits, and then attempt to re-sell them, used and a touch beat-up, for nearly what I paid for them.

That also means that I'm (theoretically) sliding through the GPU market, upgrading to higher efficiency as I go along.
(Only problem with that theory is, I've got RX 5700XT and GTX 1660 ti cards, among the most efficient for mining ETH on the market.)

The interesting caveat in all of this is, I have been cashing out to USD nearly every day. And if I had saved what I made, over the last 1.5 years, I could have bought a whole bitcoin with cash. But given that period, if I had mined and HODLed like so many espouse, I wouldn't even be close to half a bitcoin mined. Food for thought.

I wish miners would keep these and stay away from RTXs. AMD/Nvidia could have helped somewhat by manufacturing more of these "mining efficient" cards.

That sounds somewhat altruistic, and hence, was never a consideration. ;)

But with the world doing a Drago, with the - if he dies, he dies approach, and demand dropping off a cliff, the buyers market is returning. :beercheers:

Apparently, just waiting for stock levels to build up to the point of lowering costs. Starting to get a hankering for a new larger TV - I'm a big formula1 fan, and want a better experience, ours is 11 years old (go Sony). I'm sure the Mrs. (our Minister of the Exchequer) will not approve. Just recently got buy in for me to purchase a sub $700 GFX card (hence the desperation for lower prices on 3080/6800XT)*. Actually, the TV will cost twice as much - decision made!

* Pro-tip - tell your wife your new video card will cost $1200 - whereupon she sparks up and say WOW - Really o_O Wait a couple of weeks and say prices are going down and it'll cost 700-800 dollars. Sigh of relief on wife's face, FTW!

This one wont work...
You tell her you need a 1200 dollar cpu... she goes only after i get my $1800 Louie Purse to make it even.
You tell her later it went down to 700 dollars, she goes the Louie purse went up $2100 so its best bought now since you saved on the GPU.

Nvidia, retailers and AIBs have perfected and fine tuned the science of milking to new levels. Despite large outstanding inventories, they still feel like they can milk consumers for every cent they can before budging on price cuts.

I sometimes see 85 inch selling at a relatively affordable price (LG/Hisense etc.) but the only thing that gives me pause is, what am I gonna do if it's too big to get through the door? My 65 inch already seems like a monster to me. But ever since seeing an 85 inch up close, it's impossible to stop dreaming about it.

85s look great in the store, but would be too big, if there is such a thing, in my living room.

Because proof of stake. But I bet that plenty of miners haven't got a clue about that and will be caught with their pants down.

This is the exact thing Nvidia does to gamers every gen now. "RTX 3070, as fast as a 2080Ti for half the price!" He said. Meanwhile, mid range GPU prices keep increasing, but as long as they are cheaper than the top end cards, they look better in comparison. So now the 4070 can cost at least $600 but hey, it's less than HALF THE PRICE of the 3090! And of course it is, because the 3090 was price hiked to the damn moon. I can see it now, "RTX 5070 $799 and less than HALF THE PRICE of the RTX 4090 (which is probly gonna be 2 grand or something).

You should go on Hérmes website and look at their prices before you try that...

It's not all profiteering. Real costs are going up for more advanced memory and GPUs on leading edge nodes. Course, the 3000 series wasn't built on a leading edge node...
