Are flip-flops really needed when showing in dorms?

Leros

I'm leaving for college orientation tomorrow and just realized I don't own flip-flops. Are they really needed for showering in the dorms?

i never used flip flops and the last time i checked i didnt have anything growing on my feet.

Bah, now people are saying I don't need them. Eh, might as well be safe and buy some. At least I'll be able to look cool at the pool with my $2 Wal-Mart flip-flops.

Some sort of shower shoe, YES!

Edit: Actually, this one guy I know got a fungus on his sack because he didn't wear shower shoes. It started as a case of athlete's foot (which he almost definitely didn't acquire normally... he rarely wears closed shoes), and he kept scratching at it. I assume he handled "the boys" rather frequently, and he developed a sack fungus. If you get that, apparently Tinactin is a great treatment. Cleared up the athlete's foot and sack fungus in a couple weeks.

Yeah, you do. People like me sometimes piss in the showers 🙂

eh, urine is sterile...i'd be more worried about athletes foot and such...it wont kill you to go a couple days w/out, but def. pick up a pair eventually

all those bodily fluids are not the problem. There are strains of foot rot ( athlete's foot) that are damn near incurable. Get one of those and you will wish you had worn something.

Yes. It's not so much what people do in the shower, as it is how the cleaning people actually clean the showers. In my college, they just throw bleach on the floor. Now, trust me, you don't want to get bleach on your skin.

Nobody ever wore any shoes in the shower at my dorm. I lived there for a year and a half with no problems. They were cleaned twice a day.

I never used them and survived the dorm. And pee is sterile so it's not going to harm you, it's fungi that is the "threat".

some people 'rub it out' in the shower to.:Q

Athlete's foot sucks. Always wear flip flops in bathrooms and around pools. Hell, most any public area.

Trust me on this. I know first hand.

If they could pull it off in the puny showers at my college dorm than more power to them. The possibility of it happenging didn't bother me, the water washes it down the drain. By definition a bathroom shared by a group of 18 year old men is going to be disgusting. You can be a man and live with it or a sissy and let it bother you.
