Arcade Fire... best band in last forever? Discuss

I submit to you, sir, that your "no" does not qualify. Although if you're into that whole brevity thing than hats off.

No. At least not for me. They're too hot and cold. When they rock (Rebellion, Power Out, Keep the Car Running, Month of May) they rock, but when they get ballady, sometimes they're a little too emo. Still a great band overall and endlessly talented.

Best live band for sure.

Saw them for the first time at ACL when they toured for Funeral, before I knew who they were. Saw them a second time at ACL when they toured for Neon Bible. I have tickets for ACL this year to see them for The Suburbs.

They're ok, but they don't really do anything that stands out to me. Its an appealing mixture, but I like more focus on the musicianship of the instruments. They're not terrible or anything, but give me something more, guitarwork, drums, vocals, something that grabs you more than just a general appealing sound, as there's too many artists that have that for me to elevate them above and beyond each other.

Very good band. I have one beef with them though, their Music sounds very profound, but their Lyrics are not profound at all. Once I got a grasp on the Lyrics, I had a sense of being let down.

Nuff said. Saw they opened for U2 recently... does that seem backward to anyone else?

yeah, totally.

not sure why u2 gets everyone such a fucking boner. they're mediocre. i don't see what makes them so special besides their humanitarianism...

anyways, yeah, arcade fire's fucking amazing and even better live in concert.

you clearly haven't listened to arcade fire...

you do realize that they incorporate various instruments in their music, like acoustic, maracas, accordians, xylophones, french horns, trumpets, etc? and it all sounds incredible when put together musically.

what you just said was something akin to saying, "meh... gravity on earth is ok, but it's not fast enough... what would be perfect is if earth had a gravitational force of something more along the acceleration of 9.8 m/s/s..."

First, your analogy sucks.

Yes, I am aware of that, but none of it is that interesting. Adding in a bunch of instruments that are in no way used interestingly (pretty much just typical addition you get from those) does not make it stand out (its hardly unique too). Well, maybe compared to many other bands that actually sound fairly similarly in many aspects, or the more popular stuff but like that's anything to really brag about.

Like I said, it sounds ok, it is appealing, I like it, but is not spectacular to me. I do not love it. And their lyrics are nothing especially mesmerizing either. It all blends together to be enjoyable for sure, but the way people rave about them baffles me (the way people talk about them I picture them as Stan from the episode of American Dad where he becomes obsessed with My Morning Jacket).

Maybe I'm getting old but never heard of them. Just the name sounds really emo. I'm a little old to try to get into a pair o skinny jeans and cry about being misunderstood.
