Picking a single song as the "best" of any decade is a fools errand. What makes Hey Ya any better than other songs typically cited, like Gnarls Barkley's Crazy? Or Eminem's Lose Yourself?

Outreach to groups/people who wouldn't normally listen to Outkast by blending many genres and ideas into one song. Strong airplay for quite some time, yet years later people don't listen to it and think "man this sucks, how did I like this?". It was a single that you could dance to if you went out, and man did the girls perk up and wanna dance when Hey Ya came on, but it was also a song you could casually listen to and enjoy.

Quite simply it did everything a single could do.

Again, not best song, but best single.

Good examples of what I was talking about from Neon Bible:

Intervention

Antichrist Televesion Blues

or from Funeral - Neighborhood #2 (Laika)

Laika used to be hard for me to listen to. A little too personal.

Haiti itself isn't that depressing, until you learn the backstory of Papa Doc Duvalier killing Regine's family and forcing her mother to flee the country. I think most of Anandtech is too young to remember Papa Doc or Baby Doc, or to be affected by the horror of that story.

They're ok, but they don't really do anything that stands out to me. Its an appealing mixture, but I like more focus on the musicianship of the instruments. They're not terrible or anything, but give me something more, guitarwork, drums, vocals, something that grabs you more than just a general appealing sound, as there's too many artists that have that for me to elevate them above and beyond each other.

I decided to listen to some of their songs on youtube, and I agree with this. Completely unremarkable and ho-hum. MEH.

I just went to YouTube and typed 'Arcade Fire' and watched the video with the most views.

Lol that's terrible. Is that an accurate representation of this band? People actually enjoy that crap? To each their own.

this. there was not a single musician on that stage.

They play hipster jingle rock, their songs are perfect for annoying commercials for shitty hipster liquor and beer. That and their annoying whiney emo bullshit make them about the worst band I've ever seen. Now I'm going to go drink stuff from under the sink as punishment for having 'hendrix' in my name.

Another geezer checking here.

I think their tune, 'the suburbs,' is aptly named. They play suburban rock.

Nothing new or creative to see here, move along.

I barely consider 'Hey Ya' to be music, so we're just on different planes of the argument. No need to discuss further.

Your reaction to this thread is a perfect example of why arguing about music is one of the dumbest things one can argue about.

Arcade Fire is pretty overrated. I'm not a big fan of their new album and even the older stuff wore a little thin but it's still pretty good. I submit LCD Soundsystem as band of the decade.
