From the internal pic (http://images.apple.com/macmin...gninsides20050111.jpg) it looks regular DIMM. So any PC2700 CAS3 RAM will do. But if you want max compatiblility, check Crucial.com when Mac Mini become available in the memory selector, then buy the equivalent crucial RAM from newegg.com.

Macs are typically a bit picky. It's kind of a crap shoot unless you get something from a Mac site or crucial.

Not to be overly critical, I think a computer that freaking tiny is pretty damn neat...but with such underpowered hardware, it's really not even worth buying a computer. So kudos to mac for another sweet looking computer, but no cookies for performance.

Eug, I have a serious question here.

Will it be possible to make Windows run on this thing? The reason I'm asking is because I've been looking for a luggable SFF, which I could carry around to Europe with me. But if I want some programs and applications, which are only available on Windows (*cough* DVD Shrink *cough*), or if I want to take programs and stuff from my friends overseas, I'd be SOL.

Well I hope they deliver on time. I've been needing an excuse to make a switch over to mac, or rather to get a mac, and this afforable option is perfect. Its not the most powerful system, but hopefully it will be a good workhorse. Im gonna use it as my digital entertainment computer and hook it up to my projector and do some video editing with ti. I got a 512mb upgrade for memory and a the slow ass dvd+-rw drive. I got the new ipod shuffle too, but as a gift. I think its a great option for ppl who work out a lot, but i got a mini for that over the summer, and I wished i woulda waited b.c i could have saved $100.

Technically, you can run MS Virtual PC on it, but that will crawl on this machine.

However, if you want to archive DVD to 4.37 GB DVD-R, you can use MacTheRipper with DVD2oneX or with Roxio Popcorn.

However, I'm not sure if that SuperDrive (Matshita UJ-825?) has a region free firmware. You'll have to check but you might have to use an external Firewire drive or something for alternate region rips.

No, its not possible to run Windows on the Mac mini. Unless, you purchase Virtual PC. Virtual PC is kind of slow. If you decide to use Virtual PC, I would use Windows 98. It ran like a charm.

Win 2000 is pretty good in VPC... except not on a G4 1.25 with 512 MB RAM. Even with my 1.7 GHz G4 and 1 GB RAM, it's just OK, like running a first gen PIII or something. And Win XP is slower in VPC.

The only program I use in VPC is Quicken. There is a Quicken for Mac, but you can do a direct conversion to the Mac version all at once. You have to convert account by account, and I'm told it's not perfect. And yes Intuit writes both the Mac and PC versions, so it's completely their fault. So I just said screw that and run VPC with it. Or maybe I'll install Quicken on my work PC or something.

I was running VPC with Windows 98 on a 1GHz Mac. :) It ran ok. But I upgraded it to XP, and it was slow. Got rid of VPC for good. All the apps I use are on the Mac anyway.

When I first got my eMac, it came with Quicken pre installed. I dont use though.

If all you do is surf web and check email, yes. If you plan on doing anything else, you'll need 512MB.

I was planning on hooking it up to my TV and use it to watch divx and stuff.

Oh god I'm going to become a switcher.
I love my iPod, would love a Powerbook, and will love the iMac mini.

I gotta get myself one of those.
I think I'll have someone in the US pick one up for me, with the weak USD it'll cost me next to nothing :D

I am thinking of getting one too. The girlfriend is looking for a new computer and I'm tired of her hogging my G5 all the time. =)

You arent really going to notice any dif between panther and tiger performance wise, but apple products are notorious for only working on a certain version of software. IE some software will run on 10.1 but not 10.2 or 10.3 the same goes for newer software not working on older versions
