Yes, because the employees at one retail store are incompetent, THE ENTIRE COMPANY WAS OWNED.

well, yeah, the company - and the shareholders - are "owned" because this will reduce their annual profit margins slightly. :)

So now "owned" qualifies as losing $8000 out of the millions of dollars of revenues Apple generates? Owned used to be meaningful.

PWN3D!!

Keep in mind the value was counted in retail price...Apple likely pays half of that to have them produced.

robbers who usually steal this large amount of electronics will sell them...so it wouldn't matter to them it would just suck for the person who buys one

And I'm certain it was insured for retail replacement.

Yeah...sure. The serial numbers weren't recorded. Whatever. They are recorded on a shipping manifest somewhere I'm sure. They probably want the theives to sell them on ebay and get caught.

Wow, people don't actually read the article huh? The serial numbers weren't recorded.

Articles are not always accurate, and sometimes reporters are given false information to lull criminals into a false sense of complacency.
It doesn't matter, I've already flashed all of the iPods and rubbed off any markings identifying them.

I can still read the numbers on the one you sold me; plus you shorted me on that 8ball you crook.

This happens to all companies all the time....it is not really news at all.

At each of my coops, each place always had stories about how they shipped products to stores and vendors only to have teh vedor not recieve them. the normal excuse "We put it in the ruck, but when we delivered it, it was not there anymore". Lots of companies have inside jobs. this is probably one of them.

As far as Serial #'s go....I find it hard to believe that they were not recorded. if Apple was smart, they would also include a second # somewhere else on teh case that is not visible to the consumer.
