Both the MacBook Pro and MacBook are .95 inches, and weight is 5.5 and 4.5 lbs, respecitvely

lol

11:01AM Q: Concern about the glossy screens. Are you going to offer another option?
A: Steve: We're going all glass -- we won't offer another version. Phil: You offset the reflection by the brightness, and consumers love it. One of the great things about a notebook is you can turn it however you want!

Yeah, nice try, but that's kind of a pain.

meh, 4.5lb - no thanks. Looks like I'll be trying to make a Hackintosh out of a Lenovo X300 after all.

Does the current macbook have Dual-Link DVI? Apple store is back up and there are different adapters for regular DVI and dual-link. The dual-link has an extra connector, seems to be a FW?

Three models, but only two are new. Old white macbook was dropped to $999

Wow, I'm officially pretty underwhelmed then. I see zero reason to upgrade, an LED display, better graphics, and an aluminum body aren't worth a 30% price increase for me. I guess I had somehow thought the 999 dollar price point would include these fancy schmancy aluminum ones.

Yeah. Especially since the new aluminum manufacturing should save them money....

😕

No, current MB only has single DVI (mini-DVI)

So the dual-link will allow outputs of higher than 1920x1080? Is that the idea?

EDIT: BTW the apple store is getting hammered.

Yea.. I'm a bit annoyed by a lot of the decisions. Main one being that it's a $99 adapter that you need to buy to get DualLink DVI support.. seriously Apple? This was built into the last Macbook Pro.

I hate how they leap forward with certain things and then fall so far back on others.

interested at the trackpad, the current apple trackpad is already better than everything else with the 2 finger gesture.

but steve jobs looks like he's on chemo.

The $1,299 MacBook seems like a good deal. Although it really depends on how good the display is; I guess we will have to wait for reviews. The MacBook Pro is disappointing. No matte screen. No esata port.

I am wondering if anyone thinks this new track pad is a good idea. When I am using my MacBook's keyboard and track pad, I only use my thumbs on the track pad. The multi-touch features will be nice in some situations, but 90% of the time I wouldn't be using them. I rather have two physical buttons than multi-touch.

The only problem I have with that is this. When I got my MB last year at the $1299 level, I got a 2.2GHz processor. Now that price range is in at 2GHz? Not cool in my book...

EDIT: Even the plastic has a 2.1 GHz....wtf?

Isn't it conspicuous the new $1299 MacBook has just a 2.0 GHz processor? Even the old $999 model is at 2.1 GHz??

So much for Apple's earlier warning of a transition to a lower-margin SKU on the road map! Everything they did today is high-margin IMO, although you'd need an iSuppli tear-down to reach a valid conclusion.

Apple have priced this new MacBook at a point equally between where it's a good value buy and where it's so expensive I can completely rule it out on grounds of sanity. I'm going to have to sleep on this. Damn you Steve!

And no FireWire... WTF!

I bought a Macbook Pro in 2006 at 2.16GHz Merom...has the processor changed? I'm not very familiar with processor names, but I think Santa Rosa was thrown around. Do GHz still matter with different Intel processors? I think that they are all still in the Core2Duo family.

Anyway, these updates weren't/aren't that great...with the exception of the 13" Alu Macbook. If it can drive 1980x1080 and 19080x1200 I might sell my MBP and get it for the newer design and smaller footprint. I understand that the graphics are integrated, but I don't do anything too intensive, other than watch DIVX/XVID movies & TV shows. I have a couple 720mkv files, so it would need to play those as well.

All in all, until I see them in person I'd say its just meh.

This pretty much guarantees that I will NOT be buying an Apple laptop (or iMac) in the future. I REFUSE to buy a notebook with a glossy screen, Mac or PC. I simply won't have it.

A couple of other things:

I don't know why people are still waiting for 12" MBP's. a 12.1" MBP won't be significantly smaller than a 13.3", it won't have substatially better battery life, and now that the MB's have a GF9400, the graphics playing field is a lot more even and they're made out of the same materials as the MBP now. A 12" MBP is simply not happening.

Secondly, looks like the rumors for i7 pointed to a desktop-only launch. WHen I went back and checked, the mobile processors are slated unit Q3 '09. That's still a long ways off. I hadn't researched it very well and figured the entire line would be launching in Q4, but was wrong. So these notebooks are probably what we have until July/August, with maybe a speed bump along the way.

refurbed blackbook is tempting ($200 price drop from before the announcement)

$1099
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - black
13.3-inch glossy widescreen display
2GB memory
250GB hard drive
8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)

Why so adamant Bearxor? I generally felt the same way until I got my MacBook with a glossy screen, and I love it. What are your reasons for not liking glossy?
