exactly. im sorry, but that black bezel looks absolutely horrid. to me, that is unprofessional...im sure the insides are nice, but god, that looks so ugly compared to the "old-gen" macbook pros.

they freaking better have a matte option, without that stupid glass display, or else i wont even consider it (matte is a HUGE reason why i bought an mbp last year).

I wouldn't count on it. It's one of the very frustrating things about Apple that makes me wish I sometimes would go back to Windows. The forced glass screen on the iMacs/macbooks/airs is quite annoying. I like it sometimes, but give us a damn choice.

and yes, this two tone black on aluminum look works for the keyboard.. but not the damn screen. I hate it on the imacs, and I'll hate it on these

There's no real point in arguing nomenclature here, but a "spec" is, to me, something that someone else does, that can be had on any laptop. Faster Intel processors, bigger Samsung harddrives, faster Nvidia graphics chips. It's incremental stuff that's happening all the time that Apple just decides to adopt.

A "toy" is what makes a MBP cool. It's the extra stuff that Apple adds that makes it worth 2 Gs. Backlit keyboards, multi-touch trackpads, front row interface with remote, and yes, in my esteemed opinion, magsafe. It's just the stuff that they add to it.

And, as I've said, Apple has fallen woefully behind in adding shit to their laptops. They're almost identical to what they were 3 years ago, with the exception of ramped specs. And for some people -- actually to a ton of people -- there's no real difference between a 2.0 and a 2.4 ghz processor. There's no difference between a graphics card that pushes a bazillion pixels versus one that pushes a bazillion and 1. They want something that does something functionally different; like, say, one where the plug comes undone if you tug on it. Whatever. You get the idea.

But, I think we're finally going to get some new toys! I can't wait.
 
Hmm... If it turns out that those shots are real, which they do look pretty real, then I'm going to have to see it in person. I really liked the iMac Aluminum displays, so I'll have to check this out as well.
 
I loved the iMacs in stores when I saw them. Then we got a few dozen of them in for the college and set them up in labs. Half of them were impossible to use due to glare. Most of those labs now run with all the lights turned off and window blinds closed just so students can use them.

I would never buy one for myself for that reason.
 
Daring Fireball is confirming the new MBP will only be available in glossy. This is devastating. I'd like to think that new MBP sales will tank and force Apple to release a Matte version. I had toyed with the idea of upgrading from my SR, but will not until I can get a non-glossy display. I really like the idea of the trackpad being glass and being a button though.
 
Ugh.. this is one of those things that will drive people AWAY from using a Mac. I can live with certain things being mandatory for aesthetics, but why do they have to put their foot down on the display. The glossy has great colors, but it is impossible to use in a fluorescent environment.

I have limited lighting in my office at home and the office, so it's not a big deal either way for me... but I do understand the people that need the Matte display. Ugh... I'm honestly wondering whether I should've switched... I can always go to a Hackintosh if their designs begin to hinder my work.
 
No $800/$900 Mac for j00!

First I said that Apple would sell an entry-level Macbook for $799. Then BGR confirmed the existence of an $899 SKU. But then some other site claimed that SKU was not for a Macbook, but for some newfangled Apple netbook/tablet device running an Intel Atom and a modified version of the iPhone OS.

Now it seems that SKU is nothing more than a 24" monitor. Your Macbook will start at $1099 as usual. Sorry.
 
13-inch MacBook

The new 13-inch MacBooks are said to feature the same trackpad as its larger 15-inch cousins and include NVIDIA's new 9400M graphics chipset. Rumors of a $800 or $900 MacBook are false, however.

Instead, the existing 2.1 GHz white MacBook will remain in Apple's new lineup at a new price of $999. Two new aluminum models will be added:

# $1299: 2.0 GHz, 2 GB memory, 160 GB disk

# $1499: 2.4 GHz, 2 GB memory, 250 GB disk


Gruber notes that the new $1299 model sports a CPU that is 16 percent slower than existing model, but says Apple will argue that the new NVIDIA graphics chipset will more than make up for the difference.

Interesting. If true it would be the apple we've grown accustomed to. Upgrades in some aspects, downgrades in others.

ehhhhhhhhh based on rumors thus far this morning, I'm not too impressed, except for maybe claims of "sick" battery life on the MBP

man I'm working until 230. I was hoping for a entry level $800 MB but looks like no dice on that.

The MBP looks pretty slick but unfortunately it's not in my price range. Maybe I can get a refurb or used previous gen MB
 
Glass Multitouch Trackpad, rumors were right about that one.

Up to 4 fingers now available for multitouch. Crazy.
