People said the same thing in 1998 about how Linux was going to kill Windows.

Windows is too entrenched to kill off. It is a standard for the desktop market, both then and now. The mobile phone market has no such standard.

Microsoft screwed over their customers when they shutdown MSN music.

MS screwed over their customers and partners when they abandoned Plays for Sure for Zune.

They've been screwing over their Windows gaming customers since they got into the console market.

No one will stab you in the back quicker then MS. No consumer who has the mental capacity to learn from history should buy into any new MS products.

I don't like Apple, but they deserve to beat MS.

And you don't think Apple will do the same? Take that blindfold off.

Has anyone here actually used a Microsoft product in a corporate environment?

License for the OS
License for the server software
License for each user (or machine) connecting to the server
Terminal Server? Hell, throw on some more licenses!
Wow, a software company charges for software? Color me shocked.

Pie is better than cake with business apps. When have you ever seen a cake chart in a presentation, hmmmmm?

And pie leads in mind share, too! The phrase isn't, "American as apple cake!" although people also don't say, "That takes the pie!"

Still, face it, people don't strive so they can have their very own, "Piece of the cake" nor do they dream about "Cake in the sky."

Pie is crusty and trusty, a food of the people. Simple Simon was a pie man!

Remember, it was that French elitist beyotch Marie Antoinette who said, "Let them eat cake."

Snapple has sucked for more than 15 years now. Why are we still talking about this fruit-flavored fad?

Marie Antoinette never said that.

Largest company in the world? That goes to Saudi Aramco. It'd have a market cap of >$1 trillion if it were publicly traded.

So I am charged for the OS license and server license but now I am going to be charge to connect the OS to that server?

Really?

Why not? The 2 options are you pay per connected user, or you pay what MS needs to stay profitable. In other words, you can pay for 10 users in your small business, and add licenses as necessary, or you can pay what IBM or other big companies pay as a fixed cost. Everyone pays the same amount.

Ipad has no distinct functionality, ipod and Macs are overpriced, iphone's service sucks ass, itunes is clunky/annoying and < Rhapsody, so what is Apple's function in the world? OSX has had the advantage in the multimedia realm but Win7 64 bit is closing that gap fast. Would you bet on this company that rips off its users using snob appeal? Not I.

Marie Antoinette never said that.

Lol, I'm actually aware that she didn't, contrary to popular belief.

My grandmother was French, she was a survivor of the Titanic. My father spoke near fluent French. I have spent a good amount of time in France myself, and have spoken French well enough such that at least one native asked if I were French (a hotel proprietor, it may have been her way of giving me a compliment), while many other natives have spontaneously and heartily complimented me on my French.

I think they're just grateful when any American comes to their country and at least attempts to speak proper French.

In addition, I have read far more from the extensive canon of great French literature than most Americans, and have read and know far more French history than most.

Here's a hint for you, though: My post about pie vs. cake in an Apple vs. MS thread wasn't meant to be taken seriously at all! :)

It wouldn't matter if apple shut down itunes for music as most of the content is now DRM free.

Video on the other hand.....

I long for the OS to become a commodity. It shouldn't be revolutionary, exciting, or costly. Microsoft is forced to make it that however because they need new 'wow factors' to get you to upgrade to the next OS.

Same with office. Can you name one compelling feature of Office 2010 that would really require you to upgrade from 2007 or even 2003?

Apple has the same boat only on the hardware side. They have to change it constantly. Even if it was perfect they would need to change it.

So with Microsoft you pay for 'features' like improved security or a new 3d UI only to pay again for more 'features' of a new security model and new 3d ui. With Apple you pay for 'features' like glossy screens so you can be 'wowed' later with what you had before glossy screens (matte screens).

In the end, they both piss me off.

And WAY better smart playlists
WAY more and WAY better accessories
And integration with hundreds of car head units out there, which head units support Zune again? Oh yeah, none of them. Using a Zune with a car stereo is an awesome experience.

For iTunes Smart Playlist abilities alone the Zune doesn't compare. Nice try with the >>>>>>>>> it should really be <<<<<<<<<<< but whatever...

playlists being better is subjective. every car stereo that has an AUX jack supports both zune and ipod. and, since i have a kenwood deck that supports ipod control, i can tell you the sound quality between the zuneHD and itouch is noticeable. the zuneHD sounds better. i was surprised to find that my old gen1 nano sounded better than my daughters itouch tho, i thought the newer itouch sounded great, and would outperform the nano. mebbe its just my nano tho. i like the ipods and the zuneHD, but if i had to choose just one it would be the zuneHD. zunepass pwns too. oh, so does wireless sync. oh, dont forget hdmi 720p out for my tv.

what accessories are really necessary for any mp3 player? for my kids ipods and mine, all i can think of is maybe an alarm clock thingie so they can charge and listen to it at the same time. i cant really think of any "must have" accessories beyond a docking station, and the one i have for the zune integrates with the tv and stereo, has a remote and turns into a player i can sit on my couch and enjoy from afar. im sure theres a dock like that for the itouch, i just havent had any reason to get one.

ipods are not overpriced, an iPod Touch is about $50 more than a Zune HD, but it does infinity more things so the price difference is defiantly warranted. And it's CHEAPER than the new Sony player, which does nothing besides multimedia. iTunes isn't clunky, I plug in my iPod and it syncs, it's not good at all as a music player, but for syning it works great. And it's Smart Playlists totally destroy anything else out there. I cannot put enough emphasis on how great that feature is. Interestingly enough I made $300 bucks this week from using my Touch, so essentially it paid for itself. I couldn't have done that with a Zune so Touch >>>>>> Zune. I make money every week using my iPod, I fail to see how a device I've made thousands of dollars with is overpriced.

Windows 7 is nowhere near as close for multimedia and never will be. Go into any music studio worth a damn it'll be Mac + Logic. Windows has nothing close to Logic. Windows will never be the platform of choice for music. Win7 + Protools is a distant #2, and the distance between Protools & Logic isn't even comparable. Also Final Cut Pro is worlds better than Premier or Vegas. Image editing on a PC is on par, but music/video nope.

ok I won't say better, 10x more powerful. I can do things with smart playlists in iTunes no other program can touch. Controlling it directly from a deck is a huge plus too. As for accessories, external battery that doubles as a case. Nike + for working out, being able to buy a car charger anywhere that sells electronics. Speaker docks and a watch that also functions as a remote control to name a few.

mp3 players are now a commodity, so ipod is on its way out
droid is going to kill iphone - buh bye iphone
ipad is kinda cool, but it will be copied soon.

MS has made a bundle being first to market, but they won't be able to hold off the slew of cheap competitors, and i also don't think they can keep innovating and creating new products (what's left..)

So this stock is way overpriced and they're gonna plummet.

Nah, that would go to Exxon Mobil. ;)

Greatest spill? Or BP?

P.S. PetroChina is pretty big too.

PetroChina has a market cap of over $1 Trillion if you total all the entire world stock exchanges that they're on.
They're the world's most valuable company(in market cap) I believe.
