You do realize that in 2004 MSFT dividended out 32 BILLION in cash to shareholders in one swipe and has, since then, dividended out ~4bn/yr?

You also realize that MSFT's stock price reflects present and future dividend yield while AAPL's price reflects merely expectations of reinvestment of cash?

You also realize that GOOG is a growth stock whereby earnings are highly volitile while MSFT is a value/dividend stock with sedate earnings? This is why MSFT only reached a 52wk low of 20% less than current price while AAPL was 50% below.

MSFT is also 5% more profitable than AAPL, largely because AAPL is expending more for R&D.

Stock price is meaningless, as is market cap.

Don't need to justify, the iPod Touch is the best PMP on the market hands down. I paid a measly $300 for mine and love it. And I use it for work which makes me $$$, something I could not have done with a Zune HD. Making money using it is just icing on the cake. People say "ohh iTunes on Windows is a huuuuge POS!" but it's there. I can't sync a Zune on my Hackintosh at all. I'd say a slow program that syncs > inability to sync at all. But that's just me...

I've had my Touch for 6 months and I currently use a grand total of one app that wasn't included on the device, and even that is a buggy pile of shit (iFitness). I've bought a lot of Apps but just don't use them. The app store is virtually impossible to navigate and about 3/4 apps are of unbelievably poor quality.

The first "miss" they have in quarterly earnings and you'll see a huge rollback. How long that takes is anybody's guess. However, I think the expectations are set way too high.

Microsoft is bigger and much more important than apple. You just have to look at how many companies have Microsoft as a cornerstone.

Microsoft has a bigger corporate base, Apple is mostly consumer sales. Corporate customers are big on sticking with what works (or if you think Windows doesn't work, what they're comfortable with) while consumers are a fickle bunch. Apple may be on top right now, but consumers could turn on them quickly and their stock would tank. For long term earnings, I'd go with MSFT myself. Apples growth won't continue forever.

I can see their stock falling 15-25% due to them either missing analyst estimates in quarterly earnings or reports of Steve Job's death.
