Well i guess if that's the case then it's understandable, but it prefer a higher res display myself for that price anyway.
Who wouldn't prefer the higher resolution display? The fact of the matter is it couldn't be done at this time. Maybe next year we will get it. Also the amount of tablets apps available for iPad compared to Android tablets is is a lot.

Everyone knows it's coming and some people have already seen the new pricing but if you need to stick you head in the sand so you can feel good about the iPad Mini for a few days feel free.

The new pricing is going to be in effect before the iPad mini is released anyway. In any case. I'm going to have a hard time selling these vs the kindles and slightly more expensive ipad 2. Hopefully Apple user will make it easy for me and just walk in and buy them with no questions asked.

Yeah, tablet apps on the android market are pretty much non existent. The Note 10.1 comes with more useful apps out of the box than the Play has.

Exactly like you did in the google now vs. Siri thread.

I gotta get down to your level to understand your logic.
So what you're saying is the Nexus 7 has the price advantage today, and that advantage will grow in less than a week.

What exactly are we arguing about again?

The price is seriously disappointing. At $199, it would have been a pretty good gift for the wife.

And really, there's no arguing that this is a good value, even if you confine yourself to Apple's lineup of devices.

Sounds like a line out of a Samsung commerical. 😀

Thats what I thought too!

His mind must be blown.

Haha, nice.

I wasn't referring to them purposely holding back the technology I just think it's not possible to stick a 2048x1536 in a 7.9 inch screen without spending a lot of money on it.

iPad mini specs are a bit underwhelming. But they had to go with 1024x768, because a new resolution would have been a mess for apps I believe.

I was thinking I wished it had at least an A5X processor like the iPad 3. But the after thinking more, the A5X mostly improved GPU performance over the A5, and with this lower resolution it probably doesn't need the beefier GPU power as much anyway. So I guess the A5 is okay.

I'm impressed with the 308 grams weight. This tablet is lighter than the Nexus 7, Kindle Fire HD, and even Nook HD. Also easily the thinnest. Weight is important to me, so this helps make up for the lower end specs.

So the mini is basically iPad 2 at 8" for $329?

What about iPad 4? Is it just iPad 3 with the new connector? No other upgraded stuff like front HD camera?
The iPad 4 has an A6X SoC. Guessing it's a 32nm A6. I'm wondering about the claim of two times the graphics performance. Does the A6X have a SGX543MP6 with a clock speed boost?

Now that Apple has moved to 6 month product cycles on the iPad line, if anyone wants an iPad Mini with an A6 chip and 1GB RAM instead of the 18-month-old A5 chip and 512MB RAM, just wait until March. iPad Mini with A6X and Retina next October.
Eh, March to November is more than 6 months. It's almost eight exactly since the release of the iPad 3.

My guess is that Apple is moving all their product refreshes to Sept-Nov, so that no one hesitates during the holidays thinking "There's gonna be a new iPad in March!".

Honestly, I'd prefer a July-Sept window, so that by the time Christmas rolls around, supply will have at least caught up with demand. But I suppose that won't be a problem next year since the iPhone 5S, iPad (2013), iPad Mini (2013), and iPod Touch (2013) will be iterative on both design and components and there likely won't be difficulties in getting them out in large numbers.

But yeah, no more product refreshes in Spring/Summer I'd imagine.

Yeah, the A5X only gave a SGX543MP4 (vs MP2) and 1GB of RAM. If the A5 (presume 32nm) in the iPad Mini comes with the 1GB of RAM, it should perform just like a iPad 3.

Really disappointed the iPad mini didn't get A6 though.

That size is so strange; looks far too big to be a mini, particularly with that resolution. Something more portable would have been useful, though of course maybe in hand it feels smaller than it looks. Kind of an odd release.

KT

That's what I keep thinking too. I just don't get the idea of shaving two inches off of the Ipad. Does Google and company have a patient on 7 inch tablets?

I really like the black/slate combo of iPhone 5 and iPad mini - I will the full sizers (and even the laptops!) came like that.

I'd have to see a mini in person before passing judgement, the screen res downgrade kind of stinks, but slightly smaller would make it easier to travel with and use to hold sheet music during band practice as opposed to my old school binder and flipping pages. 3rd gen ipad is too heavy for that. Hmmmm maybe iPad mini is in my future (I'll sell 3rd gen iPad)

It's called "pointless nerd fighting". Personally, either you:

1) Make comparisons based on all known information. Nexus 7 will drop in price. Siri was adding navigation and sports support.

2) Be super nit-picky and compare with superficial restrictions. "You only compare what's selling NOW. You only compare what's announced!"

I usually go with #1 which is why I agree on quoting the 65% price difference but I also disagreed when demonstrated upcoming Siri features were not included for comparison.

Everyone happy now?
