Excellent movie. I love the attention to detail and the historical accuracy of the film. Definitely showed the brutalities that the Mayans carried out upon their captives and even themselves.</end quote></div>

I find it funny that a guy doing a serious review cites a site like www.iwannaspankjenniferlovehewitt.com</end quote></div>

🙂
I think he's doing that for the potential humor.
The guy is upset at his use of the word pornography.
But anyway, the first two links I posted are more substantial.

I'd see it and have it ready to be watched but haven't yet since I keep hearing it's so gory, I don't think I should put my wife through seeing it.

It's really not THAT bad.

Another thumbs up. I watched it over the weekend and was blown away with how good it was. Definitely an edge of your seat kind of movie.

I'm guessing it wasn't super accurate but there's not very many historical movies that are, especially Hollywood ones. I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I very much enjoyed it ... though it was gory it wasn't gory in a cheesy horror way. The gore was necessary to the brutality of the story. Very much in the sense of the necessity of gore in Braveheart and the Patriot. Sure Gibson is a looney but he makes damn good films, is one hell of a story teller, and makes every thing seem so realistic. The intensity of Apocalypto was insane and you felt there... I very much enjoyed it.

A quote from one of ThePresence?s citations.
?I hear that the 1980 movie Airplane! was largely inaccurate.
Alert the press!?

My take, I still liked the movie even though it was historically inaccurate.

I liked the movie as well. I don't really care if it's historically innacurate as long as they're not trying to portray it as actual history, which they didn't. I was just responding to someone who was wowed by the films historical accuracy.

I didn't care for it at all. I know it was more than this, but it felt really tedious with an hour long chase scene.

I got very tired of it.

Airplane! is a masterpiece! I'm not even sure how many times I've watched it, but I ROFL everytime.

I never saw it, the advertisements were terrible.</blockquote>

Yeah... "Apocalypto" would have been fine, but it was "MEL GIBSON'S Apocalypto."
And then the ads had Mel sitting there talking about the movie. That didn't make me want to see it at all.
It had nothing to do with his alleged bigotry, more the pompousness that because it's "MEL GIBSON'S Apocalypto" I should see it or would be more inclined to see it.

but it was his apocalypto.

Anyway I liked it, didn't see it until the DVD though.

It wasn't historically accurate, but I don't think it really was supposed to be either.

I watched it on a flight to Sydney. It wasn't bad. I don't really remember the second half all that well (I discovered the free booze😀) but I enjoyed what I remember.

..watched it 3 times so far. Read up on Maya culture. Gibson exaggerated nothing. He also created huge oppertunities for indian actors.

From the time the chase starts is when I like it, before that I was snoozin'

The part of baby in the water was not needed though.

I was thinking the same thing about the actors. I kept on wondering where they got them. It was like they went in a time machine and plucked them into the movie. I mean even the little kids were great.
