Why is everyone complaing about the graphics? its a demo, and i recall them saying it doesnt have every graphical feature in it...

Besides, its the best looking strategy game out currently.

Hot, downloading. Will report back results on my low-end graphics muscle, the vanilla 6200.

Subjectively, runs great at 10x7 w/2xAF Quality with the majority of details set on high. My card is unlocked, though. I'll have to throw fraps at it tomorrow, but it seems like 90% of the people on these forums should be able to run the game well.

On my side, I appreciate it a lot. Actually, I like it a lot. AOE III Demo shows exactly what you need to know. Is it the type of game you would buy ? If you don't want it, alright with me.

And I bet some of you saying the Demo's graphics turned you off will eventually get it via Peer-To-Peer programs to give it a "second try". Pfff.

Anyways ...

Age Of Empires III will be awesome. Its actual Demo gives a minimum, and that's appreciated.

The times are changing indeed.

I'm from those Atari, NES 8-Bit and Turbo-Graf-16 days, and I've followed the video-gaming evolution, and revolutions.

But I can still have fun with a game's content and features, besides its visual quality.

If you guys want top-notch graphics and superb game-play like that (and I mean top-end quality by your own very high requirements as it seems so), then please go work for Industrial Light & Magic and make some visual effects for future movies or something, but quit the video-gaming domain.

Stupid graphics evolutions is washing too many brains out there.

QFT - Great post Zenoth

First of all - Graphics and Gameplay aren't two different things, graphics are part of gameplay. Would Half-Life 2 be the same on the Quake I engine? No, it would not be the same game at all.

First of all, holy crap this game is awesome I might actually buy it. The last game I bought was Battlefiled 2, that was a complete waste.

The only things I dislike are the fact can't control the behavior of my units, like tell them to "stand ground" for example. I can't set unit formations either, not to mention I'd like to be able to zoom out more.

Another thing that bother me is the User Interface, it looks way to big and should be a lot smaller, but that's just me.

I am sure the final version will have miltary formation as all other AOE/AOM had them and they also had Stand Ground. I think it is a Demo thing with it not being there, err it might be

Yes i agree the UI is pretty Big. I hope there is some control over this stuff in the final... But my guess it might be best to be played on a 1600x1200. Yep wish i could zoom out some more also.

Hopefully this weekend i can get down and play and see how it stakes up with AOE/AOE2/AOM

Well my roommate's 5200 runs the opening menu at about 5 fps...he hasn't tried gameplay yet. :p

It runs fine on my 9800 (1280x1024, Low AA, most other stuff on high) - at least until the battles...

Doesn't mean the game will run low though.

i run the menu at about 15fps, gameplay rarely drops below 20 or goes over 25...

Alt-S is the hotkey for stand ground usually, Alt-A for aggressive stance, Alt-D is defensive. Defensive is what you want, cause stand ground will just sit there getting shot :p.

On the UI.It's not just you.Everyone in the AoM/TT community hates it too. There will be mods(that I will link to for you ATers) to the UI even if Ensemble don't change it. In AoM you could hit control /down arrow would minimise the UI. I'm sure it will be the same in this game, being that this UI is even more intrusive.

I don't have any idea of the FPS since I don't have FRAPS installed, but the demo is perfectly playable (apart from the bugs/limitations already mentioned) on a Barton 2600+ with a Geforce4 MX440 video card at 1280x1024 resolution. :p

Of course, this is with all graphics settings at Medium or Low, but what can you expect from an MX440? At least it shows for me that if you are capable of sustaining life without max eye candy, you can still play the game even on a five-year-old video card...

With everything on the highest setting at 1280 x 1024 i can only do around 25 - 70fps in this game it still looks like crap even the menus look lame !

Compared to what? Empire Earth 2 Demo was farcken unwatchable compared to this. That was the last comparable game in the genre to come out.

This is the first game of this type of genre ive ever loaded onto my computer .. ive never played a rts game before so i having nothing to compare it to... im disapointed because the pictures i saw online looked sweet and the layout seems clunky and hard to learn.
