He's not entirely honest here. For example, the student loan issue is those kids problems. School is expensive, go to cheaper school, and get an actual job that is wanted, and don't expect top dollar coming out of school. He's showing the opposite end of the spectrum which is basically blaming everyone else for problems that are brought on by their own ignorance. If this was Star Trek, then maybe he'd be onto something, but until laws are changed that somehow skirt the issue, or suddenly people are generous rather than greedy, responsibility still falls on the individual. Thinking that anyone owes you anything only sets you up for failure. (Edit: although I'm a bit lost at the end, because of his 'i don't want to be taxed/carry your own weight' statement which seems to go against what he's talking about. Maybe it's my own reading comprehension fail).

WUT?! You mean to tell me that if I'm in a country with free college, I can't get a government paid degree in Gender studies? Well, color me shocked!

The fact of the matter is that people like the one you quoted love to live in a blissful bubble - acting as if life is as simple as saying "Well then let's make it free!". I mean, that doesn't have any potential side affects right?

Ha ha ha you'll never get the GOP to increase taxes due to automation, they will tell you that the owner deserves all the profit.

Right - because when we want to tax companies with an automation based penalty, they couldn't... possibly... automate... in another country? NO! No! That can't possibly happen....

The owner will make his profit regardless of what you want to believe.

If amazon is able to automate all those jobs we would see a very large increase in productivity across the board. This would be great!

As for what we can do for these people then they can either be trained to do other jobs or we can pocket the increased productivity in increased taxes that we can use to help them.

Automation is great, I hope they succeed.

This goes back to my point earlier where I talked about the clothing industry being automated. I'm predicting a huge crisis in countries that produce clothing the likes of manufacturing outsourcing in the US except ten-fold.

So just for instance - in a country like Bangladesh, India, China, Vietnam, etc... What do you think will happen when clothing is now an overwhelming automated process instead of having warehouses of 500+ people on sewing machines? Pixie Dust and rainbow farts of dollars flowing to the lower classes?

WinRAR. Overall well said.

Also, just for reference - taxing the rich has been tried in many countries. It hasn't worked. But just like communism - everyone else was doing it wrong. I'm sure we will get it right though!
Except it has worked in other countries. It is currently working in other countries. It has even worked in our own country. Again, people aren't arguing that there shouldn't be rich individuals. We are arguing that we should provide basic services for the poor by taxing the wealthy at appropriate levels.

If you don't like your wages, get a better paying job. If you can't get a better job, get educated and get a career. It is that simple.
Or win the lottery.

Somebody has to do these jobs and should be paid a living wage in order to do them. Do you think there are enough of those better jobs for everybody? Do you think that we should have a permanent underclass as India has? We need to stop subsidizing the private sector because they won't pay their employees enough.

Republicans like to look at places like South Korea, but even those top performing Asian countries realize hard work doesn't always pay off. Some people get fucked no matter what; the only way to counteract some of that is through government interference in the economy and transfer of wealth.

South Koreans Increasingly Doubtful That Hard Work Pays Off

South Koreans' failing belief in the value of hard work in recent years could hurt efforts to motivate workers in a country currently struggling with low employee engagement and productivity. Since peaking at 73% in 2010, the percentage of South Koreans who feel people in their country can get ahead by working hard has drifted steadily downward. Less than half (47%) now feel this way. Further, South Koreans are now just as likely to disagree with this statement as they are to agree with it.

These jobs are meant for people living with their parents not someone supporting a family.
If you have a family to support, get an education and or a career before you start that family.
This is how it has always been. Just because some people make poor choices and then start a family on those poor choices, does not mean everybody should pay more for their blow dryer from Amazon.

How do you get an education if you can't afford an education?

Who do you think will be working these jobs during the day time when teens are in high school or in class at college?

Same way everyone has done it for decades. I went to community college and started my own business.
If you cant figure it out, how do you expect to do anything in life?

Oh wait......That is the problem.....

You sound like a millennial. They are given an answer and they criticize it.
Good luck with that, from the look of it, you will need it. Make sure you thank your parents for all those problem deducing skills you have.

so being the good Communist that you are, why would you want to see more efficient automation come in and take your comrades factory jobs?

I'm quite far from a "millennial"
You, based on your "millennial" comment, sound like a complete fucking moron

I wonder if you can figure out this mystery on your own!

Is it your intention to come off as the kind of angry old man who ruins Thanksgiving every year with some rant about the 'libruls'? That's what you come off like.

Learn to "reply" properly. it's not hard. I mean you figured out how to pay for community college, right? And me, a mere "millennial" has it down pat.

I think everyone can agree there is a percentage of the population that doesn't have the skill set to do what you are advocating here. So what is your answer to this segment of the population? Allow them to starve? Have them be homeless? In addition, what do you do with their children. Do you force sterilization of everyone below a certain income level? Do you allow them to have children and then let their children starve? All your boot straps talk is all well and good for motivating those that are capable. What about the rest of the population?

I have a college degree and many years of work experience, and still make only 22.00 an hour. New graduates and post-doctoral employees at the university where I work make even less. I am sorry, but for a job that requires basically no training or investment, 15.00 an hour seems reasonable. It is hardly "starvation wages". If one wants a family, the spouse can also earn a second income, or the primary earner can work a second job. It sounds harsh, but when I had kids home to support, I worked a full time job, a part time job, and my wife worked also. I do agree it is unfair for large corporations to pay little or no tax, but I would much rather see them taxed and the money used to pay for college or vocational training/retraining than for the government to subsidize private wages.
