Is it easier to search for apps on an iPhone than on an Android phone?

IMO they lost credibility here... Because for some odd reason that answer is yes. I don't know why the android market has such terrible search results, but it does. If you don't know what you're looking for to the letter it seems to not come even close.

"If you don't have an iPhone, you don't have an iPhone"
Magical !!!
If you do have an iPhone, you don't have Flash, any apps Apple doesn't want you to have, Widgets, or a good notification system. But you do have an iPhone :)

Eh? Search functions the way. You can also hit the Web version of Android Market to see more information quicker and download to your phone too. Oh, that works on any browser, you're not tethered to a single program(iTunes). :p

What's BS about it? Weren't there trademark filings re: 'The App Store' a few weeks ago?

Also, what's with that Android article? Basically every item is 'ME TOO!' Apple is doing no wrong by highlighting things it does...

It doesn't say if you don't have an iPhone you can't do this. It just says you don't have an iPhone.

Actually that's exactly what it says in the ads. The iBooks one says, if you don't have an iPhone, you don't have iBooks, so you don't have your favorite books in your pocket.
That's just pure misleading BS. You can have your favorite books in your pocket on an Android device, hell you can just have your favorite book physically in your pocket.
But in Apple world, if it's available anywhere other than iBooks, it can't possibly be your favorite book.

You obviously missed the point. While it doesn't directly state it, it implies that you can't do these things on Android, when you clearly can - just with another company's rendition (market vs app store, amazon vs ibooks, etc).

Apple is very good at cleverly implying something that is a lie, without outright lying. They've been doing this for years (see the "I'm a mac" commercials). Please don't bother refuting this. It is very obvious to anyone, including you. They aren't lying, no, but they are leading you to believe things that aren't true.

as with every other commercial in this world.

i mean seriously unless Apple's sinking into the CA Meg Whitman for governor ads, this is fine.

Android Police is going too far and getting super defensive. I mean the first attempted refutation is retarded. You don't have the App Store. A in capital, S in capital. Apple is absolutely right. No one was referring to Android Market. Of course the Phandroid site has to bring up Android Market because it FEELS as if Apple is attacking the Androind Market. It's simple. All teh ad means is if you don't have an iPhone, you can't use Apple's App Store.

Also other parts like iBooks or an iPod. Who cares if Android has its eReaders or your phone can play MP3s. When was this about Android? My fucking Symbian phone plays MP3s. Big deal? You don't have an iPod. That's all it's saying. And by iPod it refers to everything htat comes with an iPod such as the easy to use UI and what not...

It's an ad. People are trying too hard to turn an ad upside down.

The line you quoted does not exist in the video.

And that is... good marketing? If Google wants to inform the public their product can do the same they are free to do so.

You think every commercial in the world is misleading? That's just flat out false.

Hmm...you consider intentionally misleading advertising to be good advertising...you have an interesting view on the world, that's for sure.

The part that says if you don't have iPhone you don't have your favorite books in your pocket is a bold faced lie. You can argue the other stuff is technically true, since you don't have "App Store" on Android, you have "Android Market." But the books thing is openly misleading.

If you don’t have an iPhone, you don’t have an iPod in your phone.

....which is true, unless you have an actual iPod in your pocket. I'm not sure what AP is getting at. Having an MP3 player on your Android device doesnt make it an iPod. The ad is no more misleading than the AP article.

?! Do you want them to highlight Android's features while they're at it? Then it wouldn't be an ad.

The Xoom commercial tells me if I buy a Xoom I will have some magic space ship appear around me.

Whats your point?

True my SGS doesn't have everything that comes with a Ipod since I'm not tied to iTunes and can actually play the formats I want (flac).

My point is that Apple is flat out lying in ITS ad. If you want to start a thread about Xoom ads, by all means proceed.

*sigh*

Come on, think a little bit harder. You can highlight the strengths of your product without lying - such as saying that without iBooks you don't have your favorite books in your pocket.

Apple's old iPhone ads - ya know, the ones that said "this is what an iPhone can do"...are good. These ones, that say "you can't do this without an iPhone", are pretty much BS.

Except they don't say "you can't do this without an iPhone." They highlight three very distinct products in the 'App Store', 'iPod', and 'iBooks'. And guess what you actually can't use any of those on Android, can you? No. Lie not found.

I don't get why you're complaining about the linked video. The only thing it says you don't have is the "App Store." It also infers that the App Store is better at searching, which I've never had an Android-using friend tell me otherwise. Everything else is saying, "We have a lot of apps, and because you can find apps easily, your phone can do this... and this...."

Sheesh... some people are rather angst-ridden over Apple advertising.

Considering iBooks also doubles as an excellent PDF viewer, which, if I may add, is SEVERELY lacking in Android (nothing in Android renders really large PDF files right, even Adobe's own reader), I think the remark is fair.

It is true that it seems like they were really taking a jab at other systems out there, but at the same time, I just don't feel how anyone can get offended by it.

If anything, Android Police's snapped response seems like a sign of insecurity. If what Apple claimed was so ridiculous, laugh at it, and post it in a playful tone. The article on AP sounded like someone just insulted someone else's grandma.

And regarding growth of Android market, do I really have to take screenshots of... 20 pages in the Android Market showing the same widget but with slight variation in visuals to get the point across? I don't see growth. The top apps have always been there since... I was on my first Android phone a year and a half ago. It's littered with more garbage than I can find on the iPad searching for the same term.

Curious, how large of a PDF? I've got a few D&D manuals in PDF format. My Witstech tablet hasn't had any problems displaying, believe I was using QuickOffice. These were ~40-50MB in size.
