I think only animals/humanoid mobs are skinnable, i could be wrong. The new release is a lot more accessible than the initial release, heck they even provide you with a set of tools from the start. I also noticed the drops from gathering are better and it just keeps going until you run out of stamina. I found some good tips on the reddit channel for Darkfall http://www.reddit.com/r/darkfall

undead is as well, you get the stuff to make a mount :D

I think I started in my region's capital city? Lyran? Hard to tell from looking at the map, but it does have a small dungeon I haven't explored yet. Last night I killed a bunch of Kobolds across the lake in front of the town, but I just looted the stones. Didn't know I needed to skin them. Is everything skinnable? Seems weird skinning tombstones.

Lyran is north of Amurran, the capital city. The dungeon is in Amurran.

The skinning blade that you can buy from "Merchant" can be used on the tombstones.

Not everything yields an item when skinned and it's not always hide. Skinning skeletons yields enchanting items even though enchanting is not yet in the game.

Everything yields something when skinned. That is to say, each type of badguy, even magical rock mobs yield something when skinned.

I believe the best is craftable, but really it doesn't matter that much as you will lose lotsa gear.

The gear that you can use is based on your primary stat. STR dictates what metal armor you can wear. DEX dictates what leather you can wear. Int/Wis etc.

Gear that you can wear with a stat of 60 is the best you should be wearing for PVE. Gear that you can wear at 70 or more is gear that is intended for PVP.

I'm farming cotton. Seems pretty easy to afk farm while watching movies or shows on Netflix, then sell it for a pretty penny.

This'll really help me finish my leather crafting. I've only just started the x100 hardened leather and it costs a shitload to make stuff now.

How do you make a second chara, hahaa.

Also, where can you do market place stuff exactly?

You can only have one North American character and one European Union character. Your character choice is made before you click the Play button on the launcher.

You can open the market anywhere in the DarkFall world. However, you can only do business while at a Market stall which can be located in each of every regional capital city. Enable POIs on your map.

You can also theoretically max every skill on your character too. You just can't use them all at once. It's easy to flip between class archetypes and there is a short cooldown to do so.

The game gets more impressive the more I play it. I have to take back what I said about the audio. Now that I have experienced more of it I think it works very well. You can really hear mobs moving around and approaching you, and it's definitely something you have to pay attention to.

I am really digging the combat mechanics. It's a refreshing change from fixed targeting systems. The mobs themselves aren't brilliant in terms of their tactical actions, but at least they know you're there and come after you, alone or in waves, rather than waiting to be pulled. From what I have seen so far I am expecting dungeons to be pretty tough. In the sewers under Amurran I could barely keep up with looting much less skinning everything. It's not your father's "find a spawn and camp it" MMO, at least so far.

Crafting seems pretty cool. I mean, I don't really know what the hell can be tried that hasn't been, and at least you don't have to mash keys.

I'm liking the prowess/skill system. Another refreshing change as compared to level-based systems. Seems like there is an asston of flexibility.

I'm not digging the overall world ambience as much. The capital city seems dead. Very few NPCs, you can't go in most buildings. Hopefully they will flesh this out at some point. And I'll repeat an earlier question: are there no quests? Feats are ok. They go ding and I have no idea what specifically just happened beyond that I got some feat, and that's ok. But I think I find more traditional questing a lot more satisfying.

this is still very much find a spawn and camp it game, since those are the best feats for prowess points. that said, it isn't exactly easy to do, you need a group, and you still have to worry about other people wandering by and killing you all.

and trust me, you don't want the tactically "brilliant" mobs back. those were PAINFUL.

Capital cities are far too large.

That being said, you're in the Wolf lands which are not nearly as populated as human lands. Whiteclaw, immediately SE of Amurran, is much smaller with almost all the same NPCs available (except market). It's much more friendly to bank-craft-bank runs, etc.

PVE quests are not in the game --yet. They will be, but there is a lot more to finish first. Hell, half the sub-classes aren't even in the game yet. This game is very much still in beta even though it's been "released."

You can track which feats you're working on by pressing J and looking through the appropriate feat type (toggling buttons on the left on and off). Also, don't confuse the feat "ding" with the private message or whisper ding.

I sent you several whispers that you did not get. :p

Yeah I could very easily have missed whispers last night. Didn't really have any downtime to look at the screen when I was down in the dungeon. I did check my social dialog and didn't see your friend request.

I'll be back on tonight probably around 9:30-ish EDT.

Kvit siege starts in about an hour. I am severely under-prowess and under geared for this :awe:

Let the slide show begin!

Went really well. We won our siege but our sister group lost theirs very quickly and their attackers came to help out our attackers. We still kicked the shit out of both of them. :)

Got a few questions after playing for a couple more hours last night.

I lost my mount. Not sure how it happened. I was killed in the Kobold camp and sometime after returning to Lyran I noticed it was gone. What's the best way to replace it?

I don't really understand what happens on PVE death. After I was killed I lay there for a couple of minutes while the Kobolds cavorted gleefully around my cooling corpse, and then I popped back to life. Do you lose exp? Can you be res'd?

I have a growing collection of stuff in my pack that I can't seem to sell. Mostly this is food items, fossils, shells, etc. When I try to sell them at the merchant they have a 0G value and are placed back in my pack when I confirm the transaction. Is there anywhere to sell these items? Or do I just have to either delete them or stockpile them in the bank?

Is there any way to "loot all" from a corpse? Double-clicking each item when looting a tombstone is a real pain, especially when more mobs are always popping around you.

Where do whispers show up? In the global chat window?
