anyone own a 3D tv?

SandEagle

Lifer
went to Best Buy and they had a demo on a 55" LG 3d tv. i was expecting it to be so-so, but it literally blew my mind away. the 3d effects were better than a theater experience. i think it was the 3D Under the Sea demo. they also showed an NBA game in 3D. mind=blown. it felt like i was at the game. as soon as i get approved for a cc, i am so getting one.

oh, and if your mind was "literally" blown away, your brain matter and skull fragments would literally be on Best Buy's floor right now.

come on people, can we stop with this "literally" crap right now?

Not too bright this one eh? Of course it can be filmed in 3D.

I LITERALLY have no idea how it took this long for people to realize they should be using stereo vision. You have 2 eyes and 2 ears. I know you use at least 2 speakers for those 2 ears you think it might be about time you addressed both eyes too?

Actually I do know why it took this long, the technology wasn't really up to it till recently.

I hope it can be, the OP might find it enjoyable

for 3D, you have to set up each shot to be renderable in 3D. staging and mise-en-scene is extremely important if you actually want real 3D.

for a show like cops, I doubt the perps would be willing to stand a proper 3 feet to the center left of the cop while the camera and lighting crew prepare the scene.

😉

seriously, watch the fail that is Clash of the Titans "3D," and understand the horrendous disgrace that this ridiculous marketing-created technology has enacted on the film industry.

The lighting can remain the same. All you need is 2 cameras for 3D. That is literally it. If the lighting isn't right in 3D it won't be in 2D either and vice-versa.

It might be too dark and that might be annoying but the depth won't be affected. I play L4D and L4D2 in 3d. It's better if it's brighter but that's true for 2D as well.

Oh and, yeah gaming in 3D is awesome.

I'm not even going to think about 3D (even if my tv has the capability) until they make a tv that works from all angles without glasses.

don't you get an instant on spot approval? why do you have to wait? go for it, its totally worth it. I have Sony. Get Sony or Samsung, they are better, its not like you buy them everyday... go for a good one.

Where I live, Time Warner has a full range free 3D VOD channel!! lots of free goodies...

My plasma (Samsung pn42a450) apparently has some kind of 3D capability, but I would need to spend >$100 on a pair of glasses to use it.

I seem to recall you having some credit card troubles. You shouldn't be allowed another one for a while. It hurts the rest of us.

Well not really. See, it is sandeagle we're talking about here. Since he's retarded, his brain is paper thin. Therefore, it could literally be blown away by the sound coming out of the speakers at the Best Buy demo.

I purchased an adapter to convert the 3D signals to one my TV can understand (checkerboard). The problem I ran into is that Mitsubishi didn't want Samsung customers using it, so they required the EDID of the output device to be one of their TVs. :\ I wanted to go... PS3 -> adapter -> HDMI 1.3 Receiver ... since 1.3 has no problem handling checkerboard (or Side-by-Side or Top-Bottom), but cannot handle Frame Packing. Problem is, it must go adapter -> Mitsu DLP.

I tried Super Stardust HD in 3D (going PS3 -> Adapter - TV) and it was okay I guess. It was all "behind the scene" sort of 3D.

Oh well, it gave me an excuse to upgrade my Denon AVR-1910 to a Denon AVR-2112ci 😀.

I think the problem that you're discussing is with movies that are filmed in 2D and post-processed to be 3D. These are usually pretty bad and Clash of the Titans is a good example of that. While I'm admittedly no fan of 3D*, the ones filmed in 3D do tend to at least look a bit better while still worthless.

*Note: My TV is 3D capable and I've upgraded it to support it, which would kind of go against the whole "not a fan" thing. 😛

If you can't cover the purchase with cash, you don't need one.

They are nothing all that special. 3d library and wearing glasses hinder 3d.

I have two, sold the glasses kit on one of them. It's nice to watch a 3d movie every so often, but wearing glasses constantly would get old.
Also some movies are just plain worthless in 3d, others though are quite spectacular. Problem is there aren't that many.

I have a Sony 3d. The TV itself is the best TV I have ever owned. I THOUGHT I had a good TV before (1080p DLP) but I was wrong.

And he is right that 3d looks MUCH better on a tv than one the big screen. Tron and Tangled are both amazing to watch. It is like you are looking through a window.

As for Clash of the Titans, that was a post filming 3d convert. The same as taking an old movie and colorizing it, doesn't work as good as the real thing.

The only down side is that there are very few 3d movies still. If Pixar would start putting out its films in 3d it would go a long ways towards ending this problem. Computer animated movies look awesome in 3d since they were produced in 3d. Being able to buy Avatar for less than $80 on ebay would help as well.

As for 3d gaming... On the PS3 it is just okay at this point. Crysis from the computer though was insanely awesome. The depth really added to the experience, but I stopped using 3d about half way through the game. 3d glasses for a 2 hour movie is okay, but for a 20 hour video game... nah...
