Who knew Jaden Smith likes Anime.I just finished watching Neo Yokio on Netflix. It's a Netflix original animated series with elements of Japanese anime, but while the animation style (MOI Animation is the main animation studio) is heavily influenced by Japanese anime, it still looks like many of the other American series animated in Korea (especially The Boondocks, which was also by MOI Animation). It has more big-name actors doing the voices than a typical anime, most notably Jaden Smith, Susan Sarandon, and Jude Law (and even a small part for Richard Ayoade, yay!). Ezra Koenig (from the band Vampire Weekend) is the creator, executive producer, and writer behind the show.
I have mixed feelings on the story and characters. I appreciate the critique of upper-class New York socialites - and even a few of the voice actors even come from that world, so the portrayals feel fairly accurate - at least going by what I know of that world from Gossip Girl- but the satire isn't as sharp or witty as I was hoping... not that I had huge expectations for the show. Mostly the show lightly pokes at Japanese anime tropes (I would love to have a mecha butler, by the way
), while satirizing the first-world problems of the ultra-rich and powerful in an alternate timeline/universe version of New York City. The plot involves the main character, Kaz Kaan (Jaden Smith) fulfilling his magistocratic duties by fighting demons, albeit reluctantly. There is action and drama, but much of it feels like an afterthought to the teen angst and foppishness of Kaz and company.
It's an Adult Swim or Comedy Central kind of show. It's one to watch when you are bored, with low expectations. It just doesn't have enough laugh-out-loud moments for me to recommend it highly as a comedic series, or enough action to consider it an action series, but it's still entertaining enough to consider adding to your Netflix queue. It's only 6 episodes, though, so hopefully the show explores more ideas and advances the demon-fighting elements and storyline if there's another season.
5.5/10
Anyone following Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e ?
INDEX III CONFIRMED!Oh well, time to move to Takehara then![]()
Mitty is so cute... I mean ugly. I don't think there will be another season. Like you said it's baiting the source material lol. Kinema Citrus never make seasons.Finished the last episode of Made in Abyss. Poor Mitty.I wonder if it'll be a series that we eventually see another season of, or does it serve more as an advertisement for the source material.
I started watching it recently, and it's... okay.... I guess. I think the biggest problem is that the two main characters are just very cold and not terribly likable. You get the feeling that Amanokyoji is supposed to be the sort of superhuman problem-solver type, but he never really seems to do that like characters in other series. They also spend a lot of time on the classroom problems, but the problems normally aren't that interesting to begin with, and they almost spend too much time.
yes ofc why wouldnt he? i want more Mikasa!!!... No as in is the anime coming
INDEX III CONFIRMED!
Still can't bring it upon myself to finish the first two series. Railgun is so much better that it's somewhat painful watching Index.
Yes, I agree. Railgun is full of fillers in the beginning but the fillers are actually really good SoL stuff. Index is mediocre compared to Railgun, it's almost too childish like One piece action. It's not mature and gory enough, it's PG at best. Railgun is not gory but the fights and arcs are make up for it. Index is really lame, literally every fight Touma ALWAYS win no matter what. All he has to do is raise his lame right arm lmao...Still can't bring it upon myself to finish the first two series. Railgun is so much better that it's somewhat painful watching Index.
