I was wondering if any of you guys have built a llano rig yet. I was hoping to hear how gaming is going on it from actual members here

Once they release some mini ITX boards, I might do a build for a friend looking for a light gaming rig.

I don't have one, but I walked by some guy that was staring at another guy's shirt that had 'Llano Team' emblazoned upon it.

I'm debating buying one just to be the first . Probably not the most cost effective upgrade but well this is a hobby after all

I do not understand this whole Llano thing. if you need just a basic gpu built in then why not go Sandy Bridge i3? a 2100 i3 cpu performs about the same as the cpu in Llano, is about the price and uses way less power. sure the gpu is stronger in the Llano but only just enough to tease you and is not going to be playing modern games at settings a gamer would like. heck even a dinky gt430 is better than the built in graphics you will get on Llano. feel free to educate me on the benefits of Llano though.

Llano isn't for enthusiast gamers. It's for casual gamers and people who play older titles.

Have you ever heard of World of Warcraft?

yes but again if someone wants to play modern games at all then they will still want a discrete card. all these graphics do is tease you and make you wish you had a real gpu. sure if you play at 1024x768 or 1280x1024 it will get you by but anybody looking to build a new pc is likely at 1680x1050 or 1920x1080/1200.

him: it's not meant for modern games
you: yes but if modern games are played it won't be good
me: big deal, it's not meant for modern games

my point was that people likely do not play just WoW and will have some more modern titles they would like to play.

If people were so concerned about using less power, then why are people still using outdated P4s? Llano isn't targeted towards enthusiasts like us.

for which an xbox is usually cheaper than a video card :)

Llano is great for htpc who also wants to do some gaming. Negates the need to Buy a discreet 5570 or lower video card. Very easily able to build a small itx system since you may not have to worry about putting in a low profile video card for some gaming and media tasks. Much better gpu performance, gpu features, gpu drivers, and more gpu than any of Intels yucky igps.

The biggest reason is not having to buy a video card to do some gaming since Llanos gpu is near 5570 class performance. Llano has never meant to be a high-end gpu to run 2000+ resolutions. Only those who would have bought a 5570 or lower video card to stay on budget while being able to play games. Whats wrong with that? I don't recalll anyone saying they are getting Llano to run @ 2000+ resolutions with all eye candy in place?

I was only mentioning power in comparing it to the i3. like my parents are casual gamers so the Llano would do nothing more for them except use more power. if they wanted to play real games then I could just build them an i3 pc with a discrete card and still not use much more power than the Llano while having a faster pc for gaming.

Power consumption difference between i3-2100 and A8-3850 isn't that great:

people likely do not play just WoW

If 1 in 10 WoW players only just play WoW that's over 1,000,000 people.

The highest Steam user peak is 3,500,000 people. If you look at Steam's hardware survey, each 3% represents over 100,000 users. Without looking closely, I can spot six GPUs that are less powerful than Llano that total roughly a quarter million Steam users.

The perspectives of many of this forum's users are very out of touch with reality.
