I would hope my parents would never do such a thing.

How is she any more of a traitor than the guy in the Oval Office?

From the onset of his presidency, GWB has been about big business, political interests, and futhering the monetary agenda of everyone along for the ride.

When you see the outright abuse and scandal that has plagued Iraq...billions misappropriated, billions missing, billions in the pockets of defense and oil contractors every month...Sheehan is not exactly topping the lists of people I would define as committing treason.

HHHmmmmm....I have to ask myself "are you better off than you were four years ago"?
Yep. Seems like I wouldn't be by your statement though.

Not that I would expect 180000 troops (max) to find a hidden dump in an area almost the size of TX.

WMDs were never of any imortance anyway. Well except to win popular opinion toward the war. Would it have been a bonus if we ran across a few? Sure. It (war in Iraq) is first and foremost a staging area for democracy in the ME and of equal importance a staging area for the war (cold or hot) with Iran.

Did we fvck up in the invasion of Iraq (not initial)? Sure. The end result will be the same though the current situation does complicate matters.

What? Am I the only one who remembers that the war was sold because Iraq presented a clear and present danger to our security because of WMDs? Now everyone's claiming "they were never that important"? It's revisionist history and, sadly, most Americans buy it because they have the attention spans of goldfish.

Now suddenly it's about spreading democray in the Middle East. A noble cause... but would I send soldiers to die for it? I'm not so sure.

Why spread democracy to Iraq? Why not Syria or North Korea or Iran or anywhere else? If soldiers are going to die for it, I think we should discuss it.

I mean, if we're so "pro democracy" then why not, for example, Saudi Arabia? Saudi Arabia has no elections, no constitution, no parliment. Saudia Arabia's public decency force (or "muttawa") beats women on their hands and legs when their skirts are too short. In 2002, the muttawa blocked the exits of a girl's school on fire because the girls weren't properly covered. 14 girls died. The royal family takes in billions of oil money while a huge percentage of their population is unemployed, bitter, and angry.

And the kicker of it all? They Royal family donates money on the sly to terror organizations and fundamentalist mosques as "protection money" to save their necks. So that the mosque schools teach that the US is evil, rather than the royal family. So that all those disaffected, unemployed youths won't rise up at them. This is why 15 of the 17 hijackers from 9/11 were from Saudi Arabia.

So why don't we spread democracy to Saudi Arabia? Cheap oil.

Cheap oil that would end if democractic elections started and the Royal Family was overthrown.

So don't tell try to sell me that we're Robin Hoods of democracy, because we're not. This country has always acted in its own interests, noble or not, and always will.

No you aren't the only person who has said/ thought that. I am not denying that the administration has deceived the public to a certain extent or that they haven't made mistakes. However this isn't some new thing I'm buying into. I've said it from the outset.

SA and NK aren't exactly off the radar. They are just handled in different ways. Iraq was an "easy" target to start from.

Radicals like Sheehan make it tough for the Democrats to win elections. Hmmm... maybe that's how the Pubs can keep a lying idiot like Bush in the White House? Something for all of you to think about...

chavez has made a joke of his democracy. theres a good article in foreign policy magazine on it. new kind of autocracy. http://www.foreignpolicy.com/ he's flooded their supreme court by more than doubling its size to fill it with his appointees, he got rid of the senate..bent the rules of the house, and basically setup rules that favor his supporters for elections. its a sham. if bush had done anything near that he'd be a monster. but i guess its ok for chavez since he hates bush:p bashing america is a good way to distract from his bungling his decade of rule. no real gains for his people.

twits like sheehan just give the antiwar movement a black eye. shes the pat robertson of the left.

Way to gloss it over. That school is the training ground for foreign intervention/assassination/overthrow. It's where a majority of our oversees interferences have been born, especially in south america. It's a covert school of empire.
