Anyone else think of Canada as not foreign?

While being bored at work the other night (cashier at grocery store - winter break + job FTL), a lady came through my line who was obviously foreign. "My" bagger was annoying and kept asking her where she was from (Germany), etc etc. Then a few hours later a guy came through who said 'eh' right off the bat, so I figured he was Canadian.

Anyway, I don't know how to explain it, but I don't see Canadians as foreign. I basically think they are Americans.

ie. Let's say someone from Britain talks to you, you might think he/she thinks of certain things/people differently , but to me a Canadian is an American.

It's really hard to put into words, though I hope someone knows what I'm talking about.

I'm not trying to start up a flame or whatever, the last line I said with sarcasm -- but what I think I mean is I consider people with accents as foreign, and to me Canadians don't have accents. Heck, for some reason I feel Canadians are more 'American' than Hawaiians. And that doesn't mean anything bad even though it sounds like it.
 
I think we just relate with people who speak our language. I don't really see British people as super foreign, since we've been buddies for so long and our cultures are pretty similar. Same with Canada - the Canadian-American border is really more of a marker than a boundary, after all - we used to be able to pass freely between countries since we have such relaxed relations.
 
well, thats good to know, might be moving to Canada then if our stupid government doesn't get off its ass with all its idiocy
 
I like Canada! They filter all the shit out of the air from Detroit before it hits New York.

Upper Canada (Ontario) had a huge influx of United Empire Loyalists. This means a lot of Americans settled there during the War of Independence.

So its of no surprise that many Canadians have American relatives going back centuries.

So much population swapping between our countries have almost made us the same.

We are America's #1 trading partner and #1 Ally when times are tough.

We are there for America when the chips are down.

When my ship pulled into BC our ship was rammed by protestors. They sank so we rescued em, gave em blankets and hot coffee while we waited for police.

The same day I was walkin through this quaint little neighborhood when some old woman asked me if I was off that big ship out there. I told her I was and she started throwning rocks the size of baked potatoes at me.
