Canada is like australia, they are the children of europe.

You mean like all of the new world?

You have a point. South America was heavily influenced by spain and portugal.

I guess I was referring the to remnants of the great white empire.

Ehh .... the English speaking parts of Canada may be very similar to parts of the USA, but the French speaking parts are as foreign as Miama, Cuba!

Not as foreign as you think if you understand both languages. And Canada is not like the USA; we might sound like you, but we're not you.

Of course they're not foreign!

Good 'ol number 51, the Maple Leaf State. America's hat.

j/k of course. I had a Canadian roommate for a year and the American/Canadian jokes never ended. Canada definitely has a different vibe. It may not be as different and the US and China, but it's not the same.

You could only be so lucky.
Requires nine states to approve the admission of a new state into the confederacy; pre-approves Canada, if it applies for membership.
If. Never happened, never will.

Alberta is like Texas but the rest of Canada is pretty much foreign - more European.

We still hold out hope. I doubt that it would ever happen in our lifetimes. Canada seems to halfway define itself by contrast to the US as opposed to something more intrinsic...at least from the Canadians I've met. However, in the long-term future, it could happen. It would take something major (like a large-scale war against a common enemy or some sort of disaster) for us to finally come together though. When the chips are down, we North Americans do tend to stick together. In the mean time, we'll keep on like we are with the US being the drunk guy at the bar hitting on the hot chick bartender...who keeps saying we've had one too many. :p

I've traveled too extensively to think of Canada as foreign.

The differences between separate US states (Say, California and Texas) are much higher than the differences between adjoining states and provinces (say, Washington and BC).

In general I actually like Canada better, but there are some things about the US that are hard to beat.

Psst ... Miami is actually part of Florida which is the USA, not Cuba ;)

Technically they are Americans. They're North Americans. Mexicans are Central Americans and Brazilians are South Americans.

There aren't many, but I've met a few Brazilians who are actually offended when we call our selves Americans, like we're the only country in the western hemisphere.

:p

Obviously you've never been to Miami.

I do not know a single person that says 'eh'. Never understood that stereotype.

I'm guilty of this. I don't say it in that stupid tone that most Americans think we use, but I do say it.

Ontario is like another state, a state that our idiotic government now requires you to have a passport to go visit. Quebec is more like a state pretending to be a foreign country. They refuse to speak English unless you tell them, "I'm sorry, I'm not from Ontario. I'm from NY. I'd have loved to have taken French when I was in school, but they required me to take Spanish because we have so many illegal immigrants in our country or something." Always got a smile for me & they'll switch to speaking English.

Midwest/West Coast/East Coast Americans tend to have similar accents as us Canucks, so it's hard to see them much different. However, southern state Americans feel like foreigners to me. Very different ideals, very different accents.

Canada on the whole though is a lot like California in terms of people/ideals IMO. Higher taxes, similar population, leftist ideas.

Hey, us Americans are not the ones with the horse riding police. Stick that burr in your saddle and sit on it. :p

We have police cars now, last I heard. But we can't afford the gas, so horses pull the car.

:p

Think our military got a gun upgrade too. Plastic handled sling shots. The wood ones kept breaking.
