What's the point? I'm uploading at 40kbs/sec, and getting a whopping 7kb/sec downloading. Does this happen to everyone, or do I just suck at the internet?

So limit your upload speed ... most consumer broadband connections' download speed decreases as upload speed increases.

Limiting your upload == faster download

works for me, works fantastic for me.

if everybody downloaded faster than they uploaded, where would the bandwidth come from? Chill out, at least your download is moving.

That doesn't work, torrent stays slow.

It sucks.

maybe the thing you are downloading doesn't have many sources, or your router/whatever is blocking the port necessary for it to run. before i opened those ports i was downloading at 20kb/sec, after 150kb/sec (max of my connection). this is all with the upload limit in bt set to 20kb/sec

It saves me from having to pay for newsgroup service, so I'm all thumbs up about it. Popular stuff tends to move pretty quickly.

I get like 250 KB/s while uploading at 5KB/s if there are more than about 20 seeds.

Exactly, depend entirely on how many seeds there are. If you're trying to get some obscure file that no one is dowloading/seeding, then you are only going to be able to download as fast as that one person can upload.

It's alright. I don't use it that much but the few times I did use it the download jumped up to 300KB/s after awhile.

BitTorrent rocks. There are some tricks to it though. I forgot exactly which ports you should make sure you have open, but if you have them all open it's supposed to be faster. Also, use the Experimental client, it's awesome.

bit torrent rocks. although it doesn't guarantee you the file like edonkey or emule, downloads finish quicker than any other p2p client. I never filled a 120 gig in 2 weeks until the arrival of bit torrent.

I like using Burst! for bittorrent downloads. I cap my uploads at 10 k/s and I get pretty nice download speeds. :D

I use bittorrent damn near daily. Movies, games, music (full cd's, good (192kbps usually) rips). Between it and ircspy/packetnews, you can find anything but the most remote things.

It rocks. Gotta make sure you get the files while they're hot for the best speeds though. If you wait, or get something obscure, then it gets slow.
