Back when they got hacked, you had to verify your account, but my contact info was obsolete. I would have had to contact them to get my account back. I didn't bother. I guess I was tired of them at that point. Lost my flawless feedback, but I don't have to deal with ebay. I think I'm doing pretty good.

Pretty much the same here.

Haven't used E-Bay in a while myself.

Also, I have a dead HP tablet that I don't know what to do with :( I don't want to sell it because it might have sensitive data. I feel like my only option at this point is to...destroy it :whiste:

Hah. I also have a dead touchpad. One day it just wouldn't start up anymore. I hardly used the thing but i had all my google accounts on it. I'm also afraid to trash it, so it's been sitting on my bookshelf for the last 2 years.

Ditto. Mine seemed to die and revived a couple times after I gave it to my sister. I think it finally died for good.

<3 Ebay, 2 months ago I got a new steam cleaner that's $300 everywhere else for $160 shipped. It takes more work than it use to that's for sure, but I find some WTF good deals on there still.

I agree.

Plus, a lot of the time there's no tax, free shipping, referral bonus, and 4-5x ebay bonus bucks.

I've never sold anything but I buy on eBay all the time now. I shop for the lowest price and eBay generally has the items I want at the lowest price out of any retailer. eBay is paying me to buy with eBay Bucks so I can't say no.

THE FEES!!!
Give you FREE LISTINGS, which equals to what, 50 cents savings?
Then... 10% to eBay after the sale, 10% to paypal, then shipping, and for selling something for $80 you end up with a whooping $30 (maybe).
I've found its better to donate to Good-Will and take the tax break, or just give it away to a friend to family member.
I'm surprised eBay hasn't been bought out by Amazon or Walmart.

eBay is decent enough for buyers these days since eBay will refund you at the drop of a hat. However you'd have to be crazy to be a seller.

One thing too is Ebay needs to change the way shipping cost works, it should not be something that the seller has to set, it should actually be based on the distance, and the actual cost of shipping. Not sure how that could work though, maybe Ebay could setup it's own shipping service or something that just has deals with the major carriers. So you print the label and put it on the box and the shippers recognize it. I guess the logistics of doing this would be complicated especially for places that might only have small local couriers.
Choose "Charge actual cost" when you list the item, then choose the shipping service, package weight and dimensions. Then the buyer will pay the actual cost based on their zip code, which should be exactly what you end up paying, provided you print the label through ebay.

If you sell an item for $80 and charge actual cost for shipping, lets say a Priority Mail medium flat rate box, which is $11.30. After both ebay and PayPal fees, and your shipping cost, you make 67.92.

No one that knows me would dispute my lack of sanity.

They have been having free listings, and they gave me $110 worth of coupons for doing it. And our FS/FT is not what it used to be, Ferengi have taken over mostly. So far, so good, selling there. I also limited everything in the seller options as much as possible. If I get burned the coupons will compensate me mostly. But it will also be my cue to exit.

EBay is good if you just need something sold quickly and be done with it. But if you can use Craigslist to sell locally that's a better way to go.

I think the last time I tried selling something online was an unopened video game about 12 years ago. The buyer received it and left me positive feedback on ebay.

However two months later, he claimed he never got it and did a chargeback. And he did the same with everything else he previously received from other sellers and left feedback for.

As obvious a scam as that was, I still had to fight paypal for it. Afterwards I realized it's a complete waste of time to try to sell on ebay.

I've been lucky I suppose. Have sold maybe 50 items over the 10 or so years on eBay. Never had a problem.. Yet.

Is there an app to notify you when an Ebay listing comes up (Buy it Now) or to even purchase it for you if it meets a certain criteria?

eBay still has some use...

I had a 25 year old humidifier that I really liked, but it died last winter. I did some research and found out that they stopped making the line somewhere around 2005. Found one on eBay, in nearly new condition, cheap. The (actual) shipping cost was more than the item cost. Great find.

Found a particular bike I was looking for. Again, no longer in production, I had been looking for a used one. On eBay I stumbled over a new one that a bike shop in the midwest was selling. It was their last one, about two years old, for about half the price they sold for new. Great buy.

I also find some great deals on used clothing, mostly outerwear. Once again, it's typically looking for something specific. Unless it's rare, someone in the U.S. recently put on 20 pounds and has one in new or near new condition for sale.

Great deals on certain computer components directly from China. Maybe they're products that disappear out the back doors of factories, but I just bought a couple of new LSI HBAs for a great price. I'm not sure how/where else you find those sellers.

On the other hand, I've never sold anything on eBay, and have no plans of doing so.

Been frustrated with my last few Ebay purchases. Bought two items that were supposedly New and both packages were opened and 1 of the items didn't even work. Maybe I have a different understanding of what "New" means. Reached out to one to see what he would say (decide between leaving no feedback and negative) and not even going to give the other guy a chance to do anything. Going to leave negative feedback and will go through PayPal to get my money back. It's frustrating because I needed both sooner than later and paid a higher price and did a Buy it Now to get it sooner.

Reminds me of a seller that assured a PSX Game was "brand new!!" ...only taken out of its factory shrink wrap and played once "to make sure it works". :hmm:

Hahaha. I had something like that happen to me too.

I bought a meat slicer that a woman claimed it was an unopened, brand new wedding present.

When I got it, it still had little bits of dried meat stuck in it where she did not wash off carefully enough.

Like eBay's saved searches, with the option of receiving email notifications?

What I like about ebay is they still get a lot of traffic. Yeah...the fees suck...paypal fees suck. They usually take about 10%+ off your sale....but in some cases you make more because you get bidder wars going for some items. Paypal almost angers me more than ebay these days because anytime I try to use them with my bank account, they set off the fraud detection on my account and end up locking it. That tells me that they've had some shady stuff going down on their watch. I don't blame the bank for protecting me...I just try not to use Paypal for anything now.
