I played consoles my whole life, always a big nintendo fan. I still have and play my NES and SNES. Then I got my first computer around 18, and went almost exclusively to PCs, because 3D accelerators were the sh*t and the N64 and PSone were for the most part garbage. I played them both here or there but never acutally bought one. I couldnt stand the low res, blurry, choppy mess they all were, and most of the games came off as half-assed attempts at something new.
So I got hooked to FPSs and RTSs, pretty much forgot about consoles, until I got my gamecube. I love my gc to death, it has all the best games, and metroid prime might be one of the best games I've ever played. Even though PCs and GPUs are supposed to be so much more powerful, the gfx in metroid are amazing. Its utilizing the system to the max, and it pulls off effects you just dont get in the PC realm. Meanwhile, PC games are still being made for lowest common demoninator TNT2s, and GF Mxs.
Besides, I havent played a console game that needed patching, and they are much cheaper.
Of course I realize that PCs and consoles are two different things, and I hope not to start another stupid PC vs. Console wars. I dont think either will win anything over the other, theyll both always exist... Just that right now, console games are looking pretty good, unlike 4 or 5 years ago.
Anyone know what I'm talking about? I havent played a good PC game in years that wasnt an FPS or RTS, and console games seem so much more varied right now. Online gaming is where its at and why I stood with the PC during the 32bit years, but now consoles are catching up there. Consoles are getting hard drives, now downloading levels/skins/mods is going to be a reality for consoles too. So whats left for PCs other than high resolution/poly counts? I wouldnt go as far as to say the graphics are actually better.
