I played consoles my whole life, always a big nintendo fan. I still have and play my NES and SNES. Then I got my first computer around 18, and went almost exclusively to PCs, because 3D accelerators were the sh*t and the N64 and PSone were for the most part garbage. I played them both here or there but never acutally bought one. I couldnt stand the low res, blurry, choppy mess they all were, and most of the games came off as half-assed attempts at something new.

So I got hooked to FPSs and RTSs, pretty much forgot about consoles, until I got my gamecube. I love my gc to death, it has all the best games, and metroid prime might be one of the best games I've ever played. Even though PCs and GPUs are supposed to be so much more powerful, the gfx in metroid are amazing. Its utilizing the system to the max, and it pulls off effects you just dont get in the PC realm. Meanwhile, PC games are still being made for lowest common demoninator TNT2s, and GF Mxs.

Besides, I havent played a console game that needed patching, and they are much cheaper.

Of course I realize that PCs and consoles are two different things, and I hope not to start another stupid PC vs. Console wars. I dont think either will win anything over the other, theyll both always exist... Just that right now, console games are looking pretty good, unlike 4 or 5 years ago.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? I havent played a good PC game in years that wasnt an FPS or RTS, and console games seem so much more varied right now. Online gaming is where its at and why I stood with the PC during the 32bit years, but now consoles are catching up there. Consoles are getting hard drives, now downloading levels/skins/mods is going to be a reality for consoles too. So whats left for PCs other than high resolution/poly counts? I wouldnt go as far as to say the graphics are actually better.

Agreed, but thats only really relevant for FPS and RTS games, something which I believe are better and should stay on PCs. Keyboard and mouse over a gamepad for fighting, driving, action, sports, basically anything other but an FPS or RTS game? No way.

PC can have any kind of games controller just about tho, so I don't see a problem if you're willing to spend a small amount on a gamepad to give you the extra freedom to play Driving games/beat em ups etc on a PC.

PC has been the most powerful platform for years and will continue to be for the forseeable future. That's why I preferred it. However, since my interest in games has waned a little, my interest in paying $1k+/year to keep my PC up to date has waned as well. My PC plays the current games, but not very well. I'll upgrade sometime in the future but I'm in no rush. In the meantime $200 buys you an Xbox or PS2, both of which play very nice games. No patches, no upgrades. Just the console and the game (and a big tv!).

Guess you never played Gran Turismo 2. What an unfinished hunk of junk! PC games will always need patching. There is simply too many different hardware configs out there to make it flawless out of box. MAJOR software glitches though are unexcuseable - like the Pools of Radiance "Deltree" oopsie.

So you're saying you missed out on Freedom Force, Neverwinter Nights, Dungeon Siege, Civilization III, and Mafia.

I'm lucky (depending on your definition of the word) if I buy more than one PC game every couple of months, but the stuff that I do get is not easily replicated on consoles.

Amen. I cant see why I should spend $200+ on something that can ONLY play games. When you start adding acessories and stuff, having a PC that can game, word process, surf ATOT, e-mail, and all sorts of other stuff is just more economical IMHO.

When you can play a concole game at 1600X1200 then you MIGHT be able to compare them.

for me, it's the other way around. ever since i became a pc game player back in 1992, i have never looked at another console game.

i had GC for 3 weeks, got bored of it and sold it (yes, i had good games, like mario smash, nba street, and monkey ball).

console games are too simplistic for me.

I have to say that your biggest mistake there was buying a GC. Those things are far more simple than the Xboxs and PS2s. The games are more catered to children (though some games are not meant just for kids). You're right that PC games are more complex though and that can be a good thing (like a good RPG, for instance).

I'm really looking at going back to consoles. I played tons of SNES, and some Duke3D, Doom and Warcraft 1 back in my 486 days. By the time my Pentium 1 and Voodoo 1 rolled around my console gaming pretty much died out....

But lately I've been taking a hard look at the PS2, XBox and GC. Despite the fact that PCs are still more powerful, the quality of games on the consoles is getting better and better.

No 'controllers' can beat the controllability of keyboard + mouse

Everyone says that, yet I've found Halo to be very easy to play with a controller.
Maybe it's not quite as precise as Keyboard/Mouse, but it's not so bad.

Add that to the fact that Halo for the XBox, and Red Faction for the PS2 are much more fun than the current wave of FPS games on PC...more fun than anything since Halflife I'd say.

I think the PCs grip on the FPS genre is highly slipping. There are some control issues to overcome...but I can snipe with the gamepad in Halo, and the games easily make up for it in fun and story.

Not sure about RTS...I've only played Starcraft on N64, and that was bad. I like my hot keys...and I don't think your average gamepad has enough buttons to pull off the hotkeys...

Most other Genres are at least as good on Console if not better.
Fighting (Tekken), Action (Devil May Cry), Racing (Gran Tourismo), Sports (huge ass list), RPGs (Final Fantasy?), and so on...

These are all PS2 games since it's my favourite, but you can pick out good titles for the other 2.

It's nice to see great graphics and all, but PC gaming is far too overrated.

If one got severak K of $$$ to burn every year, I guess it's fine. I personally prefer buying a $230 (CDN) GameCube. It costs far less, I get wireless controllers for a decent price and I can play some games with family without having to buy yet another computer just for multiplayer.

And with X-Box and X-Box Live, I see even less reasons to play games on the PC.

There are still some games that are better played on PC, though. Some mentioned keyboard and mouse (which I never got used and and still prefer N64 controllers for them) for FPS, but then there are some designed for consoles (PS2, I think). I'd still play Simcity, AoE or that new one on the PC though.

Because it is a lot more fun to play NHL, Madden, or any of the sports games that I play on a TV with 4 of my friends. The truth is most people who play PC games don't much care for sports titles anyways, so they generally don't see the value in it.

I have tried to play games with friends on the computer (while they are over) and it sucks. That being said, Halo would be a hell of a lot more fun for me if I could use a keyboard and mouse.

I can see the value in both platforms. I don't want to play Diablo on my Xbox or PS2, and I couldn't imagine trying to play friends in Q3 or UT on anything other than a PC.

I don't want my Xbox (or any of my consoles) to do anything except play games.

To me, PC's excel at RPG's, RTS's, and FPS's.

Consoles excel at sports games, fighting games, and racing games.

Adventure games - tomb raider are a toss up and just depend on how well they are implemented.

Sure there are some exceptions, and some ports, but this is generally the case. Choose as will from there.

For now anyway, top of the line or close PCs and on line are the only way to play most games.

Do what makes you happy is always the best though.

"Anyone else sick of PC games?"

Now that you mention it, yes. I'm kind of burned out on FPS's and everything new coming down the road for pc seem to be RTS's which I don't care for.

The thing is, I had a PS2 and traded it because I never used it. I also own a DC and 120+ games, but I just can't stay interested in any of my DC games very long. Except Cha Cha Amigo. That d@mn monkey just kills me. :D

I prefer having a bunch of my friends sitting on a couch with beers 4 playing on one console on the TV...better than sitting alone in my room playing with a bunch of faceless bit streams.

Consoles can go online anyways these days.

But hey, if you like to multiplay online better, to each their own.

Neverwinter Nights and Civilization 3 own my soul.

That's all I have to add to this discussion. Thank you.

granted, i'm only 20, but it's been ages since i've played a game on the computer. The last game i remember getting for a friend was the original The Sims game, and even that was a fresh release. I never really got into console/PC gaming much.

I'm not sure about saying PC games are bad in general comparing to current console games. There are a bunch of crap on consoles as well, as with a bunch of crap on PCs. It's true that console games have more varieties, and PC games are just mainly FPS and RTS, but there is nothing wrong with enjoying both at the same time. I have GC, PS2, and DC as consoles and I constantly upgrade my PC to run the latest games. I'm having a blast with all of them. I still play SOF2 and Q3 since those pure intensity are not experienced on console multiplayer. Yet games on PC do not have emotions and thoughts that of those in RPGs like FFX and Kingdom Hearts and action/adventure games like Metroid Prime and GTA3:VC on consoles. Many people still trying hard to pick one over the other, or trying to drift one way because of the trend, or whatever reasons. But they fail to realize that each of the systems and PC all have their gold stash of games that are equally enjoyable if you are a true gamer that does not let other people influence your way of thinking. I certainly am not affected by what ppl say about PC this and that or GC this and that. I enjoy all good games, and I pity those who pick between systems.

Well said.

I still find it puzzling when some people tell me, "You got a GameCube? That's a kiddie console. X-Box (or PS2) is better."

Sorry. I follow games, not the hardware. I will eventually get an X-Box but that's because of X-Box Live and some nice upcoming games.

No one wants to sit around a computer at chairs to play games...2 people can't simultaneously use the keyboard at once to play the same game. This is why consoles are better...I never play video games alone unless its warcraft 3 on battlenet. It's kinda fun gettin people together, bein able to sit on a couch and playing multiplayer games while drinking 40's. This is the reason why I like XBox better than ps2 cuase it seems like all good ps2 games are only 1 player games and I don't wanna sit and play video games alone
