Not sure what kind of policy you have but that doesn't seem very high.

Edit: It was just an observation, btw. And yah having to pay more sucks.

My employer pays $1600/month per employee for their policy. That doesn't seem very high at all.

But certainly if you were part of the young and healthy group that got away with paying for just catastrophic insurance prior to ACA, yes you have plenty to be angry about. All the young people who voted for Obama, well yes he decided to sell you out to help subsidize the baby boomers increasing costs by making you take a high deductible insurance policy you won't use much of (which is planned) and making you pay higher premiums for the non-service you were planning for anyway.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his need. You pay more so that others can pay less.

What was the mission? Making health care unaffordable?

Really? Can you not afford it or are you just whining like a baby?

40 million people were locked out of having insurance by your insurance friends.

They have been forced to let them in courtesy of you and I.

If you don't like it then start doing something about other than whining like a baby on an Internet board.

So these 40 million have health insurance now?

When a idiotic president makes dumb decisions to appeal to his even dumber base then I can and will complain all that I wish to.

Yes, a majority of those 40 million do now have insurance including my cousin that was locked out and he thanked me, you and the President.

You may feel Obama was idiotic and dumb on this decision but your hero Bush also made idiotic and dumb decisions that all Americans are still paying for like the false war in Iraq.

How is all that Mass Weapons of Destruction Saddam had doing for you?

Bush was an idiot in many ways too, but the current Idiot of the United States is effectively taking taking $300 more a month out of my take home pay.

The silver lining to this is that many of the people who voted for the party responsible for the debacle will also see their health care premiums soar, They will suddenly realise that free health care isn't so free anymore but is rather costly. I believe it will have a huge effect at the polls, then maybe someone can fix this but I doubt it.

Well there you go.

Bush cost you money as well just not as in your face as the Health care law.

Why would you expect health care to be free?

What would you have your Republican buds do to fix it?

So hilarious coming from the person who whines and cries about every little gas price spike.

I don't expect it to be free and always knew it wasn't free in spite of how we were told by obama that our health care premiums would be lower.. remember that?

Most of the dems base thought it would be free was my point. I think they will soon be surprised. I wasn't surprised at all i was expecting a huge rise in rates in spite of what the Idiot in Chief obama promised. I just wondered how terrible this obamacare would be, but I'm afraid we still don't know just how bad this idea is for the dems have been delaying its full effects to help them in elections, why is that you think?

Why are you talking about Bush I never said anything about Bush.. he was an idiot too just not the complete bumbling idiot obama is?, stay on subject please.

What makes you think this increase was because of the ACA? You mention you have an employer sponsored group plan. These plans were left largely untouched by the ACA.

More likely is that you have a shitty employer and you're complaining about the government instead of complaining about them.

I said largely untouched.

So let's work this out. You say the ACA caused your contribution to increase ~50%. What aspect of the ACA caused this in your opinion? What state do you live in? Let's check the average premium increases there.

I bet your employer is screwing you and betting on you being too dumb to know it.

Maybe you're right and I'm the only person whose health insurance premiums in 2014 will rise by 55%. Let's wait and see what the average premium is in 2015, not 2014.

It could be my employer screwing me. I been working there 15 years and I never had a 55% increase in premiums before, but hey maybe they just woke up and said "Even though obamacare has lower the costs of providing health care for our employees just like obama promised, Let's just screw them and raise their part of the premium by 55%"

You could be right and what I said above is completely and 100% true .... but I doubt it.

Let's wait and see what the average premium increase is in 2015. That's why I made this post to see if anyone else is experiencing their insurance premiums skyrocketing, maybe I'm the only one...

edited.. screwed up the years listed

No joke, the average premium for ACA marketplace plans looks like it may DECLINE next year. That's bananas.

Really though, no matter what state you're in the most likely answer is increased cost shifting by your employer.

Mine went down slightly and my vision will be free starting with our new enrollment period. Maybe time for a new job?

It looks like those are the rates for the government subsidized plans.

For the sake of the country I hope you are right that insurance premiums for government sponsored and private insurance purchased by employers are both lower, and it is just my employer screwing me. I truly hope that you are right.

The rates for ACA marketplace plans exist before government subsidies.

I'm aware of no state that has seen the kind of increase you're describing. That's why I said the likely cause is increased cost shifting.

Most companies are screwing their employees. People keep getting worse healthcare and getting more of the burden shifted to them (probably what happened to you) because we have to keep those shareholders and CEOs happy.

Oh and those 'government subsidies' aren't done until after the plan is chosen. A person picks there plan, which is not subsidized, and then they find out what types of credits they're eligible for.
