Anyone Else NOT getting orange box?

I bought it for fun... I mean, I don't own a single one of the games in the package, so that's a higher benefit for me!

I went to one of the two Gamestops to get the PC version though. They only had the opened new copies left.. I looked inside and there inside was the card with the CD Key on it... very easy to get to!! I bought it anyway... but then I decided to head up to the other gamestop and I saw that they had new unopened PC versions. I asked if I could trade and the guy first saw that my copy only had two DVDs and a card. Confused that this was it (and I was a bit at first too!), he opened one of their copies and saw that there was only 2 DVDs and a piece of paper! He gave me an unopened copy ( ) and I was on me way.

loved HL2, HL2 EP1 sucks IMO. I won't be getting the orange box at its current price. the Circuit City deal is pretty good but I m holding out for Crysis and UT3. It really ticks me off EP 2 along costs $30. When I bought the first one for $17.

Wow, this thread makes me sad.

You people don't know what you're missing.

EP2 is the best episode yet - the fighting is much more intense and there are a couple of big twists to the plot. Portal was amazing, best puzzle game I've ever played. First game my fiance has ever actually sat thru to the end with me for. and TF2 is just plain fun!

$45 was bargain for this, Especially considering all told I spent over $70 for BF2 + SF + AF and we all know what a gawdawful buggy mess it is.

I already have HL2 but not the rest,I might buy it xmas time,in no rush due to other games to play and waiting also brings the price down too 🙂.

I just got HL2e1 from skulkingghost as a gift, and I don't plan on getting orange box, the QW:ET demo is fine for me.

My wife started playing Prince of Persia with me. She tried to play FarCry, but the opening scene where the Merc says "Did you hear something?" while you're walking through the cave tutorial freaked her out. :embarrased;

I'm sure that portal is just the type of game for her.

Same here, why dont some people like half life 2?! I dont get it... I bet theyre the same people who also dont like ice cream or chocolate or theme parks. I dunno whats wrong with them 😕 Probably some sort of condition, im no doctor though.

I loved Half Life, Opposing Force was fun but inconsistent, never played blue shift. I LOVED Team Fortress. Half Life 2 was incredible for the first 2/3 of the game, but I lost interest after that. I really liked Episode 1, however. I'm currently on the fence about the orange box, since I have way too many games to play through at the moment. I'll probably pick it up later on when it's dropped in price.

Either that or they realize it's a crap game that is at least 50% filler and literally no plot. You start on a train with no explanation of what happened between HL1 and HL2, or why you're on a train. Barney helps you escape the.... concentration camp... which is run by.... people in gas masks.... and they are.... "benefactors". Ok. Then we drive a boat around for maybe 4 hours. Then after that we play "don't touch the sand or crawler things attack you" for another couple of hours. Then the actual gameplay starts. At the end of the game, you kill some guy you've never heard of, for reasons you don't know, then time stops, you don't know what happens, and the game is over. Awesome game! I wish they made a book of that, it would probably be a 5 page coloring book with pictures of lamps or something equally unrelated to HL1.

I know quite a few people who are not getting the orange box just because they don't like the cartoonish graphics of TF2. I must be a weirdo because I really like the graphics. I'm sick of every single game looking exactly the same. That and it kills me how the spy keeps smoking even when he has a mask on his face.

I'm ticked, but the bastards in the other thread are talking about how good it is. I had a Newegg gift card so I broke down. I don't want to feel like I'm missing out on something. And I'm still on dial up so I'm not even touching TF2....😀

I'm not getting it - right now anyway. Due to my video card being 5 years old. 😛

I'm sure I will eventually buy it (whenever I can afford to upgrade), but right now there's no point.

now were talking plot?
😕

is there anything more STUPID than BioShock's? - which contradicts itself

... or FarCry

... or Doom3

we're not talking Halo - it does have a good 'back story' and it is a series
:Q

FPS is generally not about plot although it helps to not have it so stupid as to be distracting ... FPS' goal is to shoot things and get past obstacles to the goal and end of the game
--you want story? try RPG 😛

anyway, Ep2 is a big leap over Ep1 in every way

I might get it if its budled with a video card or something. How long is EP2? EP1 was like 3-4 hours and cost me $17 bucks needs less to say that pissed me off. $30 for EP2 had better be MUCH longer.

I personally have found TF2, Portal, and Episode 2 extremely entertaining so far (I've played many hours of TF2, I've beaten Portal, and I'm well into Ep. 2). I would value them at probably $15 a piece (maybe $10 for Portal, since it was so short), and that's about the cost of the orange box, so I think I've gotten my money's worth at least. If you aren't a fan of HL2, obviously I wouldn't bother buying it. But people that enjoyed HL2 will enjoy these a lot, I'm sure.

Those weren't so bad. Bioshock at least explained why you're doing what you are doing. You crash land in the ocean and find some strange city filled with crackheads. The crackheads are controlled by their drug dealer who is a libertarian with a funky voice, so you kill him. Something else happens (it's a spoiler so I won't say it), and you kill some other guy as well. It seems very similar to the RPG Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark. You're in some human city, the city is attacked, something or somebody goes missing, you go into a dungeon to find them, plot twist, you go to the underdark and kill somebody, plot twist again, you kill that other person.

I don't know FarCry's story since I hated that game.

Doom3 was very clear cut. Scientists experiment with portals they found on mars. The scientists have the same problem as the people who did the same thing thousands of years ago. Monsters come back through the portals and take over the base. You roam the base and get to the portal so you can close it off. You get deeper into the story and discover you need something called a soul cube. Evil scientist takes the soul cube with him through the portal. You go through the portal, get the soul cube, and kill the leader of the monsters. The end.

thanks, ShawnD1 for the confirmation about FPSes and silly plots .... and *this time* there actually appears to be a "story" in Ep2 😛
:Q

Only thing I was interested in is TF2, so I saved a few bucks and just downloaded TF2 off steam. So far it is tons of fun 🙂

LOL! Translation: "I might get it if it was free."

Agreed. I have gotten some good bundled classics with my hardware upgrades over the years. Got a half dozen games with my very first DVD drive (including Baldurs Gate 1, Decent Freespace, Heros of Might & Magic III). Got a couple with my very first dedicated sound cards (including Half Life 1). Got Farcry with my previous video card. Notice the trend? Less and less (if any) bundled games with the bleeding edge hardware upgrades. I think they used to bundle so you would not feel like such a sucker for upgrading. Now I suppose that they know we are suckers and they want us to know it too.

I might buy it when it reaches the $5 clearance level at Target.

I bought TF2 by itself. I know it was only another $10 for the Orange Box, but I didn't even finish HL2 and have no desire to play any of the episodes. And I had enough of Valve's experimental games when I got that disc throwing thing with CS:S, so I'll pass on Portal.

Ricochet(I think that's the name) wasn't that much fun. I vaguely remember trying it once.

You missed out on Portal though, it's one of the few games that managed to suck me in to the point where I didn't want to sleep.

I loved HL2 and HL2.1. I will buy Episode 2, but I don't want to re-buy HL2 and Ep1, and I don't give a shit about Portals. TF2 and Ep2 only, please.

It's sad that you think that - the HL universe has a great storyline and if you just paid attention and sat down long enough to interact with the characters and your environment, you might just learn a few things about the HL world and not seem so ignorant and impatient.

That's a shame, because if you had bought Portal there was going to be a party for you! A big party, that all your friends were invited to. I invited your best friend, the companion cube... of course, he couldn't come because you murdered him. All your other friends couldn't come either because you don't have any other friends, because of how unlikable you are. It says so right here in your personnel file. Unlikable. Liked by no one. A bitter, unlikable loner, whose passing shall not be mourned. Shall. Not. Be. Mourned. That's exactly what it says. Very formal. Very official. It also says you were adopted, so that's funny too.

I decided not to get the Orange Box mainly because after HL2 (which I thought was a good game) I really don't feel like toying around in the HL2 universe anymore. I did pick TF2 up off Steam for $30 though, I could've gotten Ep1/2 and Portal for another $10 but I just don't see myself ever playing them. Most people are turned off by the cartoony look of TF2 but that's one of the main things that sold the game for me. I like my games to look and feel like video games, not real life or movies.
