I'm definitely looking forward to the single player campaign, but probably won't bother buying it for a few years until it's down to at least $20.

And in my experience, playing RTS games online is soul-crushing. Some random Korean who is ranked #498,192 (out of players in their city) always destroys me before my map can load.

Yeah, singe player here and perhaps some UMS games. I cheated my way through SC and BW. Does being 12 count as an excuse? :p

At least you have realistic expectations for how long it will take to get that cheap.

Count me in the camp of singleplayer and custom games. With some rated play until I realize how much I suck, and the work it would take to get "good".

Mostly single player, probably will play a few multiplayer games with friends but I have no interest in playing with random people.

I started by thinking, damn you were young when you played this. Then I realize how old starcraft is, and that I was 14/15 at the time. And no, being 12 doesn't count as an excuse!

I'm only getting SC2 for the single player story and all the user made custom maps. And of course some good natured comp-stomps. :)

I'll be buying it mainly for the campaign and custom maps, I never really cared for the competitive online play in SC and after playing the beta found I still don't really care for it. I just don't want to put the time or effort into it to get better really.

Interesting to see so many people getting it for SP only. I canceled my preorder after routinely getting my ass handed to me in the beta. I'll probably get it for SP in a couple years.

new launch trailer, focus on sp campaign, looks very well written and epic, seems like the straight continuation of SC1 unfinished story. even the single player campaign looks worth the money now, not to mention all the free custom maps. like many people, i dont like multi player as much, too stressful and cut throat, and my hands are slow, and i cant remember all the hotkeys

not to mention all the free custom maps

In the ToS (or maybe the eula can't remember), it states everything made for SC2 is owned by blizzard activision, and they've stated intentions of selling maps as microtransactions so you can expect any good custom maps will not be free, but I guess maybe people can take comfort in knowing some tiny fraction of a percent of the money will go to the authors of the content. I'm saying this kind of sarcastically though although it's within possibility (there is the clause and they do intend to sell maps to a degree)

If I will be buying SC2, it will only be for single player, because I think SC2's multiplayer puts too much emphasis on micro, and I like playing games at my own pace, not somone else's pace. I may play multiplayer against close friends or with friends against others, but I am not looking for any 1 on 1 action.

I won't buy it until it's $30 or less. After that I'll play Single Player first and if it's good enough or I have friends playing multiplayer then I'll give bnet a shot.

You'll be waiting a while! Knowing Blizzard, and especially their new overlords Activision, they will probably still be selling SC2 for $40+ in several years.

Though there's a good chance they'll have a $50-$60 Battle Chest with all three campaigns once they've all been out for a few years.

But look, the Diablo II Battle Chest is still selling for $40! That game is more than ten years old!

I only want to play SC2 for the single player campaign and I am in no rush to play it anyways. So I'll be waiting for some super collection pack that has all 3 of them together cause I'll be damned if I'm buying it 3 times, plenty of other games I can put the money towards.

+1

You guys who got railed in multiplayer really need to look into custom maps... theyre more fun and what the majority of people on battle.net play anyway.

I was a big fan of the original Starcraft, but I can count the number of hours I played the multiplayer on half of one hand. The online community's skill level in the game was daunting to say the least, and I quickly gave up trying to use button mapping to build units and move around the level. I enjoyed the singleplayer campaign immensely tho, so if I buy SC2, and I'm considering it (Dell.com has it for $45 right now), it would only be to play the SP part of the game, which I'm hoping is sizable even tho the MP part is obviously where Blizzard's focus is.

Anyone else just going to buy SC2 for the SP experience?

Ya.

I've played all games except MMO's that way.

On Diablo II, I made almost all my chars online in case I wanted multiplaye, but played it like a single player game.

Even though I've had to referesh them every 90 days for several years or lose them, and lost half (with all the muled loot they had) that way.

I'm looking forward to the campaign a LOT, but I am also looking forward to multiplayer after the campaign is over.

Unless the custom maps are co-op I can't see how that will change getting railed in multiplayer, except that the custom maps will probably cost you more money. I'm referring to SC2 though.

Uhh.. yea. Most of the custom maps are multiplayer. That's pretty much the whole point.

+1 only buying for use map settings multiplayer, won't even touch the actual game with a 10 foot pole. That shit played out ten years ago and Blizzard knows it.

I'm looking forward to the campaign... especially after that trailer!

I may do some MP with friends though.
