Someone give a review of singleplayer campaign, does it live up to the hype?

I've got to find out for myself. Some people will say "Hell Yeah" because they've been waiting nearly 12 years. Others will hate it because they paid 60 bucks and are already sour on it. I read somewhere else that the mission types feel extremely run of the mill and the character interaction (like at mission hubs) felt plain and lifeless. So now I've heard two ends of the spectrum, going to fire up the campaign for myself in a bit.

I'm only about 6 missions in the SP but I'd have to agree with the "the mission types feel extremely run of the mill and the character interaction (like at mission hubs) felt plain and lifeless." sentiment. Just IMHO though.

RTS online is very mentally straining and stressful. I find that only people with lots of time on their hands or "professionals" will have the means to master it.

I will be getting Starcraft 2 just for the single player, and online Tower defense/other types of games. Similar to how I enjoyed Warcraft 3.

Diablo 3 on the other hand will be solely a multiplayer experience.

exactly the same here

it just takes too much effort to be good at the multi-player

its really not fun being rushed over and over and over and over..and its not fun rushing people over and over either..i find that whole situation boring as hell

Has anyone been paying attention to achievements in skirmish mode? I'm not getting achievements for beating the AI. For example, I just won a 1v2 against medium AI, which should result in an achievement, but I got nothing. Also, during that match I killed a bunch of stuff really quickly and got the "meat grinder" achievement, so I know my connection to battlenet is fine.

Has anyone gotten an achievement for beating the AI in skirmish mode?

I hurt my back and called out of work yesterday, so I had the opportunity to pick up SC2 on Wednesday and play for most of the day.

I'm enjoying the missions so far, although a new unit is introduced in each one and I'm having trouble figuring out which is best suited for each role. For instance, the Goliath can attack both ground and air, and so can the Viking. But which is better? Why?

The game is more enjoyable than I thought it'd be, though it's not as mature and complex as I'd hope. I'm at the 10th mission or so, and hoping for another 20 more. :)

I'm late in the post but I just bought the game for 40CAD at a local BB this weekend.

Mostly gonna play SP...maybe try some MP but not sure since my RTS skills are so bad...

I bought it for the SP experience. After completion, I did try my hand at the MP online but very quickly realized that I was never going to compete with a community of players that were dedicated to the competition. And I never felt I needed to justify my existance by competing.

It is a fun SP experience, and IMHO more than worth the investment.

The nice thing is that there are so many people playing that there are players at just about every skill level. I'm no pro and I still have fun with the multiplayer. The campaign was pretty neat too, and I can't wait for Heart of the Swarm.

There indeed may be. So I reccomend anyone buying the game to at least try the MP portion.

As for me, I found the initial "Free" rounds to be fun. But once I got ranked, I ended up wining one in ten if that. and that can get demoralizing very quickly. And there were some obviously established play methods which I didn't care to learn or to understand how to counter. I'll admit to not being a great player and don't have the time patience to become one, so I stuck mainly the SP game.

I started of with the MP, but haven't played that for a while. I have been playing the campaign and it's nothing short of awesome. Normally, I don't buy RTS games for the campaigns..
