Anybody check out CNET's dream PC?

Only 1 monitor. Pffft. Give me a pair please.

Creative speakers. Pffft. I'll take some of that money and put it into a set of decent HT speakers.

For that budget, I'm sure I could come up with something that is miles better, in both audio and visuals.

Confused

Feh. I'd spend $100 on a case and put the other $1900 into dual dell 2001fp's, then replace those speakers, drop the floppy, and find something else to buy with the leftover $.

I thought CRT's are better than LCD's?

Here was their reasoning:
For many power users--gamers and graphic designers, for example--the quick pixel response rate and the color accuracy of a CRT more than make up for its heft. With that in mind, we selected the NEC MultiSync FE2111SB, a 22-inch CRT with a maximum resolution of 1,920x1,440. And unlike an LCD, a CRT has no native resolution, letting you set the resolution to meet your exact specifications for playing games (say, 1,600x1,200) without sacrificing image quality. The NEC MultiSync FE2111SB also uses an aperture grille that produces a brighter image than most shadow-mask CRTs. (A shadow-mask monitor passes light through a dotted grill to produce an image on the screen, whereas an aperture grille is made up of a series of charged metal strips that run vertically down the screen.)

or is that just a buncha bs?

What a fscking crock of sh!t. 😛

that included the paint job
without it the case would have only cost like $250

EDIT: the pics arent coming up??

CRT is better than LCD for colour reproduction. The multiple resoultion thing is no biggie; my monitor never changes resolutions, and if you're spending $7000 on a computer, you can game at any size you want, or at least I would hope so.

For that money, a pair of 2001s and a nice big CRT could have been on the desk!

LMAO, $2000 on the case.
I'd put that toward a biga$$ LCD and/or a better set of speakers...hmm why not a real HT set instead of computer speakers.

Nah... I'd spend that 2k on a big LCD.

I dig the modular power supply..just hooking up cables that you need. I've noticed those types of power supplies recently. Anyone own one of those and have anything good to say about them?

Why the hate?

Anyway, I'm convinced that CRTs are still better LCDs for a variety of reasons, and if you can afford a dream PC like that, you definitely have enough room to put one on your desk.

- absolutely no motion blur/ghosting
- wider viewing angle
- clearer/crisper visual quality (varies, of course, but IMHO the best CRTs look better than the best LCDs)

I concede that LCDs have some advantages over CRTs, such as perfect geometry, but I'll take a huge CRT any day. It's no coincidence that many people consider CRT projectors (3 tube front PJs) as the best if one's aim is for perfect visual reproduction. 😉

EDIT: Here's one of the best CRT front PJs - BarcoReality 912 - I'd rather have this on a Misty Evening-painted screen (maybe around 30" diag, with variable masking) than any CRT monitor.

EDIT2: Why the hell are they using those speakers for a dream PC? It sounds like they tossed them on as an afterthought. And the sound card... they should have picked an M-Audio Revolution 7.1, or a professional sound card, if gaming wasn't that high on the list.

If you've got that kind of money to blow, turn off the damn PC and go out on the town for a month with a couple of sweet and friendly Hispanic women. Damn kids need to be told everything these days!
