Any tips for cutting down on my data usage?

I just got the 6GB/month plan from Sprint as my primary internet connection. (Well, it was either that or satellite ) And I'm using way too much data. (5GB in 18 days) Are there any browser tweaks/plug-ins that can keep me from reloading redundant data? I'm using Chrome. Also, if there's anything else you could recommend, I'd be grateful for the info.

I'm not sure if this is in the right forum, but I didn't think that it would be entirely inappropriate here.

lol 6 GB.

Stop watching any streamed movies. In fact anything streaming with video cut back on.

Yeah, I've found that even streaming 240p shit from Youtube is going to be too much.

1. Wait till you get home to download any stuff from the webs..i.e: Apps, software..etc,

2. If you have to stream vids.. make sure they are at the lowest quality

3. Don't spend too much time with your phone. Socialize IRL

Use Opera, and turn on Opera Turbo. Block ads, and selectively block images. AT is a good place to block images. They don't do much for the place. Crack your neighbors wifi.

Excellent advice. Blocking ads alone will save 20-30% of your bandwidth. Additionally, "Enable plug-ins on demand" (Settings > Preferences > Advanced > Content) will reduce some bandwidth.

You could even start using the mobile counterparts of the websites you frequent (eg, http://m.youtube.com/).

Holy shit.. had to re-read your OP.

6 GB/Month plan as a primary home connection?

Do you live in a really rural place?

My guess is that he's too cheap to buy both home broadband and internet on his phone, so he thought he could get the best of both worlds with just the phone. Which, of course, is what these caps are in place to prevent.

OP, you shouldn't run that high on just websites. Don't watch video when you have a data cap.

Is a better connection type available?
You are in Pennsylvania, silly. There has to be something better....
Suck it up and get DSL.

I live in a rural area and my only other choice would be satellite. D: (People who live literally one mile away from me can get cable internet)

How much extra would it cost to go to unlimited data?

I don't believe Sprint has an unlimited plan. However, I think they have a 12GB plan for ~$30 more than I pay currently.

No, I can get telephone service. (Though, I just cancelled my landline in favor of a PagePlus cellphone) It's just that Verizon (the only provider here) doesn't have a DSLAM close enough to my house for them to supply me with DSL.

OP said he has no other options, I love it when people start recommending ones already in the first post shot down as not possible.

I had a GF with this problem. She had 10gb and without filesharing ran out long before the month was over. You're kinda screwed. You need to stop using youtube, spotify, facebook, and just about the whole internet minus checking your e-mail. Get adblock.

Seriously consider switching providers. 6gb today is a giant rip off. They're bending you over and raping you hard.

If you're in an apt consider moving.
